"Brad did a great job with my three ceiling repairs, which involved replacing sections of drywall, all of which were totally unnoticeable when he was done. He kept any cleanup on my part to a bare minimum, which is hard to do with drywall. He was on time, didn't take breaks, didn't use his phone and did what he said he would do. He was very personable, too. Good job!"

The guys removed pictures and décor off the walls.unplugged the tv in the upper corner.Moved my tredmill with the matt, my stationary bike, with pad and some chairs. They pulled the carpet back so it could dry. They moved  out the pad where the mold settled and took it with them to dispose of it. When they left ,they said we'll be back on Monday or Tuesday.I waited around Monday, nothing. On Tuesday I waited and cancelled an appt. in the morning to be there.I called around 11:00 am,I was told by the office staff she would have them call right away. Nothing. I called Wednesday morning, telling them I had an appt. when are you coming. They said we'll come just before you leave. It took them about 20 min. and they were gone. I called Mr. Pierce about what comes next if they're finished. Well we're done but I know a carpet guy that can replace your pad that was removed , restretch the carpet and replace the baseboard. $175.00 I said ok. The next day Mr. Pierce called and said the carpet guy said he had a problem with the baseboards. I checked downstairs and there was damage to the drywall. It looked like someone used an exacto knife and made a long incorrect cut up into the drywall. Mr. Pierce told me he would get someone to fix it but he would have to charge me just the cost. $225.00 , I said your people did the damage why are you charging me. The guy he got to fix the drywall cancelled on me 4 times. At this point I want nothing more to do with these people. I paid them to get them out of my house. You need to know that this service also puts nothing back like it was. I'm still waiting for my sons to come to town so they can put my tredmill ,bike and tv back so I can use them. I think not putting that in your contractor info. is just wrong.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.

Yes, small, superficial cracks are normal as homes settle. Older homes have a higher chance of showing signs of settling through hairline cracks from temperature changes, moisture changes, and soil shifting. However, larger cracks, or discolored cracks from water damage, may signify a bigger problem that requires reparations and preventative measures.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

According to the EPA, mold grows within 24 to 48 hours if left untreated after a water leak. So unless you notice the leak and stop it right away, you only have a day or so before mold is a real concern. If you don’t notice the leak, it can take about three weeks for the mold spores to become visible. That means you’ve likely had an active mold infection for a few weeks by the time you notice discoloration.

Some painters will repair minor drywall damage. For repair work of any kind, it’s a good idea to hire the professional required for the job. Many painters will have the materials on hand and can add them to the total cost. While you may save some money, there is a chance the work will be subpar compared to a professional who specializes in drywall.
