Small jobs welcome

"I really appreciated the time they took to give me a fair estimate for my house windows. They got here on time for my scheduled appointment and got to work! I was really surprised at how dirty my windows were and amazed at how clean they look now. I am very happy with the quality and friendly service Phil and Seth provided. Can not wait for them to come back for my monthly appointments!"

"Brandon did a great job cleaning our chimney and our fireplace insert. In addition, he noticed that we needed a spark protector on our cap and repaired it for us. He was very warm and professional, and did a marvelous job of taking care of our chimney both this year and in the past. I highly recommend him!"

"There are no words to describe how impressed I am with AU Handyman and Cleaning service. Ulises response was within 10 min. for an emergency where smoke alarm was going of in condo and we were out of state. He was out the door and on his way within 10 min...so grateful for that and then subsequently he and Areyi came to do a deep clean to ready the condo for sale. It had previously been "deep cleaned" but was no where near ready for sale. They came and did a meticulous job and no detail was overlooked. Two days later I needed something shipped to me and Areyi was kind enough to go to the condo and take care of that. And she didnt want to get paid ! It was a courtesy...You can rely on AU Handyman and cleaning Service for everything!! I have not had more dependable service from any company everrr! So reasonably priced also! Worth their weight win gold just for the peace of mind knowing they are on the job and it will be done right and in the best time!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.
