"I had three light fixtures to install in place of three older lights. These fixtures were in the Dining Room, and two bath rooms. While seemingly an easy effort, as always, the new installation was complicated in two of the three installs. With Marty's expertise, all issues were quickly resolved. I will use Marty's services (Silk City Electric) again"

"What a terrific experience we had with Mighty Bee Electric! Martin came the next day after we called. He was on time, clearly knows what he is doing and fixed everything for the estimated cost. And there was no upselling! I will definitely call him for any future electric work!"

"ELI was wonderful! He arrived on time, was friendly, thorough and quick. What really impressed me was ELI'S attention to the little details--he made sure no water, garbage got loose under the counter, used a mat to protect my floor/inside counter, cleaned up everything--even my sink--when he was done and, finally, put everything back under the counter where it was before he came! Above and beyond customer service! I will recommend AAA who anyone who needs drains unplugged! Also I like the company and especially the SERVICE so much, I'm meeting with a tech for another job--electrical this time. THANK YOU, ELI for your time, service and patience with my speech! much appreciated!"

"Joseph was absolutely top shelf! He wired and installed a level 2 charging station in my garage. Everything works perfectly. There were some challenges doing electrical work in a four-plex condo building but Joseph was up to the task. I would highly recommend Lovato Light and Power for any electrical project."

"My home needed to have the original Federal Pacific Electric breaker box replaced. I received 6 estimates to have this work done. This is not inexpensive work to have done but of all 6 businesses H&H offered a free estimate and provided a VERY fair price! And let me tell you, the price range is shockingly WIDE ($4,500 - $11,000+). H&H was not the cheapest, but they were not too far from it. The work was completed in one day and my power was restored before they left. I feel confident the work was done properly. I have the permit and inspection report to prove it. Thank you H&H Electrical!!"

"Electrician Pro MItch was super.. had super knowledge of my electrical problem, immediately fixed the problem and let me know what he was doing. Talked to me on my level about electricity and was in no hurry to be in and out. Tested what he did thoroughly. Gave me good recommendations and suggestions on how I could make my electrical system more efficient regarding bulb watts and amps in my electrical box. A very pleasant gentleman who really cared about me not only as a customer but a person. I'd have him back for any further electrical needs. The only disappointment was that I hired them because they said they could come in 2 days and then they rescheduled me for a 4 day wait and I had no electricity for that long of time. Thank you"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

It can be safe to buy or live in a house with knob and tube (K&T) wiring, but only if the system is in good condition, functional, and has been thoroughly inspected and approved by a licensed electrician. Never purchase a home with K&T wiring without getting a professional electrical inspection first.

Key considerations include:

  • Safety and Condition: An inspector will verify that the wiring is safe and has not deteriorated. Over time, the insulation can wear away, leaving exposed wires that pose a significant fire or shock hazard.

  • System Capacity: The electrical service should be at least 60 amps. However, even at this capacity, K&T systems often struggle to handle the demands of modern appliances and electronics.

  • Lack of Grounding: Knob and tube wiring is an ungrounded system, which is a safety concern for many modern devices.

  • Ongoing Maintenance: If you live in a home with K&T wiring, it's recommended to have it inspected by an electrician every one to two years to ensure it remains in safe working order.

Ultimately, any inspection or modification of a knob and tube system should always be performed by a certified professional.

Yes. Even when it’s not in use, an outlet is still connected to wiring, and if the wiring is faulty or wet, a fire can occur. Broken outlets can also cause fires, for the same reasons; in fact, most broken outlets are broken due to damaged or worn-out wiring. It’s worth replacing outlets that are old or damaged with the help of an electrician.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.

Yes, wires are still hot, even if the light switch is off. The only way to ensure the wire is no longer live and that you can work with it safely is to open your circuit breaker, locate the breaker for the outlet you’re working with, and turn off the breaker for that outlet.

Replacing the panel itself takes four to eight hours of work by a professional. However, if associated wiring and related components also require replacement, the labor time increases to 20 to 30 hours. Your electrician can speed up the process by bringing in a team of pros to handle ancillary tasks.
