"We just needed a cleaning and inspection of the stove for insurance but they were very professional. The tech was running late but he contacted us to let us know and he still came even though it was pretty late in the day and I am sure he would have preferred to just be home! However, if you want to use a drone to simply check out the roof, it’s considered recreational use. You won’t need your Remote Pilot Certificate, but you’ll still need to register your drone with the FAA and follow FAA and any state guidelines during the flight.

Generally, snow removal from a roof should occur once over six inches of snow accumulates, especially if you notice that ice dams have formed. Without ice dams, you can let the snow accumulation hit 12 inches before removing it. However, the amount of snow that is too much for your roof also depends on the sturdiness of your roof and the compactness of the snow. If your roof needs maintenance or has structural issues, it’s best not to let the snow accumulate too much for fear of collapsing.

In dry weather, spray the roof with a hose while someone else watches for leaks inside the attic.
