"AP Excavating installed a drinking post for our horses and replaced a water hydrant. Wonderful father and sons family business - great to work with them and their crew. I was impressed with the quality of work and their commitment to making sure they exceeded our expectations. I will be using them for our next projects: entry gate, trenching work and landscaping driveway island. Thank you AP Excavating!"

"Rich Che and the CNS Empire Landscape crew did fabulous improvements on our family home in Wheat Ridge. They corrected drainage on three sides of an addition so water flows away from the house instead of into the crawlspace; replaced 30 feet of exit pipe from the perimeter drain around the foundation of the addition; installed new sod; and removed weeds from landscaped rock areas in the front yard. The improvements look great. Shortly afterwards, I engaged an inspector to check the foundation. The inspector said he visits about 400 houses each year, and this drainage remediation is among the best he’s seen."

"My wife and I decided it was time to xeriscape our front yard and we wanted to do it ourselves. The first thing we needed to do is have our beautiful lawn of 45 years removed. It was hard to say goodbye to an old friend but it was time. So, enter Miguel and crew with Summit Landscaping to do this back breaking job. They removed 1,201 sq ft of grass, cleaned up the area, and were finished and on their way in 4 hours. Now we can start transforming our front yard into a beautifully low to no water landscaped area. Thank you Miquel and crew. You all did a fantastic job!"

"I cannot recommend this landscaping team highly enough! From the very first call, Larry (the owner) was incredibly quick to respond. I was blown away when he had a professional proposal ready for me within just a couple of hours. What really set them apart was the extra effort—Larry went above and beyond by preparing a detailed presentation specifically for my HOA approval, which made that process completely stress-free. The crew arrived as scheduled, worked efficiently, and finished the entire project exactly on time. Their professionalism is top-notch. If you want a reliable company that delivers exceptional quality and cares about the details, look no further."

"My deck is on top of my garage, and I had a leak into the garage. They removed to deck boards, to determine the repair, it turned out to be a quicker repair than it might have been, then they put in new insulation in the garage area where the leak was, drywall, and drywall, painting, texturing, and done. the whole job took 3-4 days. 2 guys each day."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.

Dumpsters work best on hard, study, and level surfaces made of asphalt, stone, or concrete. If the surface is uneven or too soft, the dumpster could get stuck or tip over when filled. Keep in mind that you must obtain a dumpster permit to keep it on a city street in many areas.

After you successfully remove your boulder, you have a few options for what to do to get rid of it. You can rent a dumpster if your yard has many boulders or if you’re planning a larger project. You can even save the boulder and reuse it elsewhere on your property to save on landscaping costs. A few ideas include using the boulder as a natural, abstract statue, breaking it into smaller pieces to line your garden bed, or offering it to a landscaping company that could reuse it for another project.

In the United States, a depth of 36 inches (three feet) for underground water lines is the accepted industry standard. This depth varies from location to location based on local conditions. In areas with colder winters, they may be buried deeper to prevent frozen well water pipes : This is usually at least six inches below the frost level. The International Plumbing Code calls for a minimum of 12 inches below grade.
