"James came by on same day that I requested a bid via Home Advisor. Work was performed the following day. The bid involved (1) filling a crack from a 20-year-old cut across my driveway, (2) a leveling patch because my asphalt had settled several inches near one corner of the garage, and (3) a SUPERIOR OIL-BASED sealcoat (RS90, professional grade...google it). The sealcoat was by far the most expensive part of the bid. Our asphalt was very dry from 22 years of abuse and apparently no previous sealcoat. We opted for a 2nd seal coat of RS90. We are very happy with the result. James was prompt, efficient, personable and followed up to make sure we were satisfied customers!"

"From initial project conception through construction, working with Mr. Krenger has been an absolute pleasure. Never before have I hired such a responsive and prompt Contractor who never made me feel like I was being taken advantage of. All of that is great, but it is the second-to-none quality workmanship that will make me hire Krenger Construction again for my next landscaping project."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

Asphalt paving offers several benefits, including cost-effectiveness and a quick installation process. It provides a durable and smooth surface, making it ideal for high-traffic areas. With proper maintenance, asphalt also offers longevity.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.

Your city or county will have guidelines about the minimum and maximum width and length of private roads. The average private road is 12 feet wide, and length, of course, depends on your property. Requirements also depend on the amount of traffic and types of vehicles your road experiences. Check with local ordinances before planning a road on your property.
