"Our hot water heater went out recently. It was 12 years old, so we knew we needed a new one. It took quite a bit of research to find a reputable company that didn’t have exorbitant prices. Other businesses told us things like: we needed all new pipes. (We didn’t.) A new hot water heater would be $3,000 to $5,000 plus labor on the of that. ( way overpriced), etc. Finally, we found an excellent smaller local company. We went with Pure Water Services in Loveland. They’re honest, reasonably priced, and absolute pros. They were able to get us scheduled for a new hot water heater within days . Their master plumber Patrick was courteous, extremely knowledgeable, and very thorough. Patrick is an impressive and experienced plumber. Alexander keeps in touch daily with every step of your project repair. I was impressed with how kind, and professional he is to customers. We are so thankful to have hot water again. They stand by their work. My husband and I highly recommend them!"

Small jobs welcome

"I had my water heater replaced by this company, and the entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. My old water heater stopped working unexpectedly, and they were able to get me scheduled quickly. They arrived on time, explained my options without any pressure, and had the new water heater installed efficiently. The installation was clean and professional, and they made sure everything was working perfectly before they left. They even took the time to answer all of my questions and made sure I understood how everything worked. It’s obvious they take pride in their work and genuinely care about their customers. The pricing was fair, the customer service was exceptional, and the quality of work was top-notch. I couldn’t be happier with the experience and will absolutely be using them again for any future plumbing needs. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, trustworthy plumber!"

"No water, but one Angies List company told us 2 weeks (because they were busy with air conditioners and hot water heaters), one told us the next day.  We called Advantage at 10:00, told us we would have technicians here by 1:00.  They were a little late, but called to tell us they would be.  Sean and David showed up, quickly assessed the problem, and began repairs.  Within an hour, the leak was fixed and we were able to turn the water back on!  With a household of 12, we were VERY grateful for the prompt response and fix.  We will definitely consider Advantage for any more plumbing issues, and highly recommend them.

"i am very happy with the service provided by Heat2 Cool. They were on time, repaired by swamp cooler so it runs better than ever and also looked at my furnace while they were there. Dan pointed out some items of concern with my furnace. Even though I have had it looked at in the last year, no one else really did the evaluation that Dan did. I will be contacting them in the fall for furnace options. Great job!!!!"

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

No, boilers and water heaters are not interchangeable because they serve different primary functions. Boilers are used for central heating systems, providing hot water or steam to heat your home. In contrast, a water heater's purpose is to supply hot water for daily household use, such as for faucets and showers. A water heater alone cannot supply the warm water or steam needed for a central heating system.

While they are not interchangeable, it is common to have both a boiler and a water heater. In fact, a conventional boiler often works best when a water heater system is already in place. The two systems can be combined to provide both heating and hot water, either by pairing a boiler with an indirect water heater or by installing a premade combination boiler-water heater unit. For home heating, some homeowners may also opt for a furnace instead of a boiler.

In most municipalities, a license is not mandatory for water heater installation or replacement. However, we strongly recommend hiring a licensed plumber or water heater installer to handle the work. Licensed installers are far less likely to make a mistake during the installation, which means paying for the experience decreases your risk of a leak and other issues. You can use our state licensing tool to find out if a contractor you’re considering in your area holds a plumber’s license.

Any item that can hold on to moisture and encourage mold growth should be discarded and replaced following water damage. Upholstered items, such as armchairs and couches, and soft items, such as mattresses, usually must be thrown away once they've taken on a lot of water. Soft furniture is difficult to dry out, creating an inviting environment for mold.

You may also need to replace hardwood furniture following water damage if you're unable to fully dry it out. If you have appliances and electronics that have been fully submerged in water, particularly sewage, you'll need to replace those, too.

You can use multiple tankless water heaters, but that doesn’t mean you should. Adding multiple tankless heaters adds considerable cost to your home in both parts and installation costs. Also, you’re adding many more points of failure in the system, making plumbing issues harder to diagnose. More heaters mean more maintenance, and insurers may want a word regarding the increased risk of water damage. A single, larger unit makes more sense in most situations.

A larger heater requires a larger breaker—unless there’s one already installed. The longer answer to this question is more nuanced. Do you place demands on the heater at the same time as running other heavy-duty appliances like ovens and washing machines? Do you live in an older home that may not have considered the higher electrical demands we have now? Breakers need to be sized at 125% of the load. To find that load, you should call a local electrical pro.
