"Jerry and John came up with concept design to replace the lawn with crushed stone paving in the backyard. They also spruced up the piles of stones and dirt left from earlier occupants. They installed about 25 potted plants, both new and existing as well as covering the side walk areas around the house with alternating stone paving and mulching. The execution of the total job including drip irrigation was performed in a meticulous fashion bringing all their experience and expertise as well as quality work ethic into achieving the stunning end result. They advised and sought our concurrence every step of the way to ensure complete satisfaction! We recommend them strongly for projects involving landscape design, irrigation system and timely execution."

"Motti was very personable and honest about what he thought would work for our front yard. He seemed to immediately understand our vision, and was able to create the look we wanted. He was also able to easily incorporate the fountain and leftover flagstone that we had already purchased. The work was done well and efficiently, including cleaning deep roots and removal of 2 large trees. The team was helpful within a couple days of the job completion after we realized that the sprinkler system was not working properly. My fear that the plants would die within weeks was unfounded -- only 2 plants died in the middle of the summer heat!"

"Felipe responded very quickly to my request for a bid. By the next day, we received a written estimate detailing all the work to be
done. His price was very good and I felt very comfortable with him immediately. Felipe provided a drawing for the custom wood trim work he proposed for our columns. I liked the drawing and his work was exactly as it was drawn. In the course of installing the columns, some of the bricks were dislodged from patio. Felipe carefully reattached them and they look good as new. The columns were embedded in concrete and had custom molding at the top and bottom. I am extremely happy with his work. The front door was a complicated installation. The door was prefinished and nothing was preassembled. The jam and molding were all separate pieces and it was installed in a 50 year old house with an opening too small for the new door. Because of this, the door took longer to install then he expected and was not without some "learning moments." What impressed me most with Felipe was how much I learned about him as a person in the midst of those moments. It was a difficult job and he stayed with it. His attention to detail and willingness to take the time to do it right is exactly what I want from someone working on and in my home. I'm not the easiest person to work for, I don't yell or get angry, but details matter to me. He added bricks below the door that didn't exist previously. It was his idea and it improved the final product significantly. The bricks had to be cut to fit and mortar was used. There were several shortcuts he could've taken but didn't. He didn't charge a penny more for it. His plaster work was done well and quickly. I will certainly use him again.

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

Mowing at least once a week during the growing season is a good general rule. However, every lawn is different, and factors like frequent rain and fertilizer use can cause grass to grow faster, potentially requiring mowing as often as every four days. When you mow, always follow the 'one-third rule': never cut more than one-third of the grass blade's height at once, as this can weaken it and prevent it from taking in proper nutrients. For most grass types, the ideal height is around 2 to 3 inches, though some warm-weather grasses do better when kept shorter at about 1.5 to 2 inches.

In most cases, it is worth paying for professional lawn care. DIY lawn maintenance is possible, but it can get extremely time-consuming, especially to make your property look well-maintained. Not only is lawn maintenance time-intensive, but it can also get expensive, even to DIY, especially considering the cost of fuel and maintenance for your lawn care tools. Professional lawn care services average around $100 per service, making it a relatively inexpensive investment, especially for how much time it saves you.

Wait at least three weeks after overseeding ryegrass before breaking out the lawn mower. Mowing sooner will tear up much of the delicate, newly seeded ryegrass as it won't have established strong roots to anchor it yet.

Ultimately, pulling weeds vs. spraying them depends on what’s happening in your yard and your personal preferences. Manual weed removal doesn’t introduce any chemicals into your landscape, targets specific problematic plants, produces immediate results, can be free if you go the DIY route, and is inexpensive with a weed service if you only have a handful of weeds. On the other hand, spraying is often preferable for severe weed infestations and situations involving difficult-to-pull weeds because it treats multiple weeds at once, is usually more effective long-term, is less time-consuming, and costs less when done by a pro.

No, carpetgrass and St. Augustine grass are two different species. However this is a very common misconception and you may even find St. Augustine grass is mislabeled as carpetgrass. Carpetgrass does not have as much shade tolerance as St. Augustine grass, and has narrower blades with an alternating pattern (while St. Augustine grass has an opposite pattern). St. Augustine grass doesn’t have the weedy, high seedheads that carpetgrass produces.
