"Our dealings with Protect Your Home/ADT were delightful. We received a call back very fast after requesting a quote through Angie's List. We were able to complete everything on the phone; there was no paperwork or downtime. I had to call Customer Service with a question about the keypad, and they ended up telling me other helpful details on top of my original question."

"Oz Locksmith - locksmith services were quite helpful. They were pleasant and competent. Ron went over the situation with the lock in great detail and provided me with a few options for how to handle it. The job was completed on time and efficiently. I would recommend this firm and will use them again if the need arises."

"It is so important to find an honest, trustworthy locksmith and Alan is definitely the best in the business. He is a total professional and I trust him to re-key my whole house. I have used him on numerous occasions - basically whenever anything goes wrong with my locks- and have recommended him to colleagues and friends. All have had equally positive experiences with both quality of work and price. I would not believe that other reviewer."

"My dead bolt lock was stuck. The key would not retract the bolt. Charlie solved the problem very quickly and charged a fair price. I was very happy with the service and would use this company again the next time I need a locksmith."

"Donâ t call anyone else! These guys are the only ones you need to call! They came out the same day, were able to help when three other locksmiths said they couldnâ t (said I would have to go through the Subaru dealer), and they were affordable. Not to mention very courteous and personable. I couldnâ t ask for more. I canâ t say enough nice things about them!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

A keypad deadbolt, a lock requiring a code entered on a keypad entry, can be a convenient option for families with children coming in and out and needing access to the home. It can also offer an easy solution if you rent your home out, since you can easily change the code as needed. So, depending on your home entry’s needs, a keypad deadbolt may be worth the extra expense.

Changing door locks is a task that most homeowners can accomplish on their own. Standard door knobs are quite straightforward, and even more advanced locks, like electronic or smart locks, generally come with instructions. That said, the process can be time-consuming, especially if you plan to replace multiple locks around the house. It’s also a task that you want to complete correctly, considering that it affects the security of your house. That’s why hiring a pro is often best when changing your door locks.

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.

You might want to change a door lock entry code for a handful of reasons. The most common answers are extra security or a forgotten code. You may also find yourself in a position where you need to temporarily change the code to allow a guest to come and go freely but want to switch it back once things return to normal.
