"I hired Marco to remove our 1975 popcorn ceilings and refinish the entire ceiling with imperfect smooth skim coat of drywall mud. Marco was prompt with a very reasonable estimate for the work, was flexible when I asked for extra things to be done and was prompt and timely getting the work done. No, you do not have to worry about new popcorn ceilings having asbestos. All residential building materials used since the mid-1980s stopped including asbestos, so new popcorn ceilings have no risk of asbestos. You can still create a textured drywall ceiling with a popcorn texture if you like, but new techniques have no risk of adding asbestos. 

How long it takes to repair a ceiling depends on the extent of the damage. Patching a small hole might only take a few minutes, while repairing a water-damaged section of the ceiling could take hours. If there are structural issues, expect your ceiling repair to take several days or longer.

On average, repairing a ceiling costs anywhere from $450 to $1,750. However, there are many variables that can impact the price of this project. For example, the type of ceiling material, type and extent of the damage, and local labor rates all affect your costs. Holes and cracks are less expensive to fix, while structural issues and water damage are pricier problems.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

Although texturing walls may not seem like a lengthy project, you’ll need to set aside between one and five days to complete it properly. The exact amount will depend on the scope of your project—one room will take less than a whole-house project. That will give you enough time for tasks that are time-consuming in and of themselves, like taping wall edges, priming the walls and letting them dry fully, and actually applying the texture and top or base paint coats.
