"A home is a very personal, sacred place, so it is nerve-racking to trust a stranger and their "expertise" with your home, especially having been burned by different, previous contractor; however, trust me when I say this: you will be in good hand with California Crews. The crew arrived promptly early in the morning, worked really hard throughout the day, cleaned up the property before I arrived home each day, and always kept an open, professional line of communication. Some may have been born a green thumb; unfortunately, I have been graced with a brown thumb. I kill every plant I come in contact with. Luckily, Joel was patient enough to pick the plants for us, which worked out very well. I completely trust his expertise. With California Crews, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. California Crews did an immaculate job on landscaping and taming a beast of a yard. We've already received compliments and positive feedback from neighbors (they're also probably grateful that California Crews got rid of my knee-high weeds too, haha). THANK YOU so much."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to repair or replace your carpet, consider its age, the extent of the damage, and its location. It's often best to replace the entire carpet if the damage is extensive, such as large sections needing replacement, or if it's caused by water, which can lead to mold problems. Similarly, if your carpet is nearing a decade old, replacement is likely the more logical choice. On the other hand, consider repairing your carpet if the damage is localized to one spot, like minor rips or snags, the carpet is still relatively new, or the damage is in a low-traffic area of your home.

It is not recommended to install or stretch a carpet without a power stretcher. Skipping essential tools like a power stretcher and a knee kicker will likely result in an improper installation, leaving you with wrinkles, creases, and an unappealing final look. While a knee kicker can provide some limited stretching for thinner carpets, it is not a proper substitute. Attempting to stretch a carpet by hand or with homemade tools can also shorten its lifespan. For the best results, you should buy or rent a stretcher. If you do not want to use a stretcher, it is better to hire a professional for the installation.

Yes, carpets should be replaced after a house fire or significant smoke damage, even if they appear undamaged. Smoke, soot, particulates, and chemicals can penetrate deep into the carpet fibers and padding, making complete removal a complicated and time-consuming process. If water was used to extinguish the fire, it can also soak through the carpet and padding, creating a risk of mold and mildew growth. Due to these challenges and potential health risks, replacing the carpet is the safest and most effective solution.

Hiring a pro to stretch a carpet costs anywhere from $100 to $300, though this price increases if you also task the contractor to remove and replace the furniture from the room. Doing it on your own maxes out at $100, though renting the power stretcher and knee kicker extend the cost in some instances.

Use baking soda and vinegar or shaving cream to fix your carpet stains. But if you prefer a quicker solution, rent a carpet shampooer and use an enzyme-based cleaner to treat and resolve your discolored carpet issue.
