"It went well.  Tyler was very knowledgeable about various critters' prints he found on my property. He had good suggestions for deterring predators ... but was not helpful in implementing those measures.  No references or anything.  I still have yet to find someone to install the kind of fencing he suggested.

"GoodFellas was quick to call and schedule an appointment for a free quote. Mike showed up on time and was more that willing to work with us on pricing. Their customer service is fantastic. Marissa was great at following up and always willing to help. Although we did not use their services this time, we would definitely call them in the future."

American West Fence and Armor Fence Company have provided quality fences since 1963. Our first office was in Lawndale, California and served all of South Bay and the Los Angeles area until 1973. The relocation occurred to San Juan Capistrano and later to Mission Viejo, where our warehouse and offices are now located. We pride ourselves on our fence construction quality at all levels, and stand behind all the work that we have done for others and would do for you. We have 40 years of all types of residential and commercial fence construction, from very basic to golf courses, driving ranges, baseball back stops and prison work. This involved thousands of miles of fencing installed over the past four decades. California State Contractors Board - License# 546901. Call us today!

Animal Fencing questions, answered by experts

Groundhogs are most active during the warmer months, from spring through fall. On a daily basis, they exhibit peak activity in the early morning (dawn) and late afternoon (dusk), which are their primary feeding times. They tend to stay in their cool burrows during the hottest, sunniest parts of the day. Groundhogs hibernate during the winter, typically retreating to their dens from October or November until mid to late February.

Take a few preventative measures to prevent mice from chewing your car wires. First, consider adding a few drops of a taste deterrent, such as pine-based floor cleaner or peppermint oil. Also, regularly starting your vehicle, even if you don't drive it frequently, can discourage rodents from nesting in the engine bay, as they prefer quieter and sheltered environments. Finally, consider leaving your car's hood up at night when parked in a garage, which makes the engine bay less inviting for rodents as it becomes less dark, warm, and comfortable.

Setting up an animal trap in your yard largely depends on where you live and the type of critter you're dealing with. In many states, trapping nuisance animals like squirrels, rats, or raccoons is allowed, sometimes without needing a permit. However, certain wildlife species are protected, and not all states have lenient catch-and-release regulations.

Before placing a trap, check your local laws to avoid fines or other legal issues. Some areas allow DIY trapping, while others may require professional assistance. Most areas require a professional to relocate the animal once trapped. Consulting a pro ensures you handle the situation responsibly, humanely, and within the law.

Badgers have a strong sense of smell, so it’s possible you can deter them with strong scents, such as applying citronella oil to the bottom of your fence, adding crushed scotch bonnet peppers sprinkled throughout your garden, or mixing both of these into a solution to spray around your home and garden.

Some stores sell smoke bombs to drive animals out of spaces, but we don’t recommend you use them, especially in an attic. The smoke can be toxic to humans or pets that may accidentally inhale it. Meanwhile, critters can easily escape the smoke by temporarily leaving the attic, only to return via their usual entry points after the smoke clears.
