"I couldn't be happier with the job he did. My ceiling fan is running smoothly just in time for the summer. Great price. In a month we'e going to get together again and I want him to do a big overhaul on my light system. It's wonderful to be able to call on someone I trust when I need help in this area."

"Diego is a very nice guy. He is very conscientious- I hired him to remove old dropped lighting with old fluorescent long bulbs- Involved removing the dropped down wooden frame, adding recessed lights to ceiling, as well as a new quiet exhaust fan, separating the light switches so there would be one switch for lights, the other for the fan. His rates are very fair. He is now my "go to" electrician."

Customers say: Quality work

"**Highly recommended** Because Richard at Hollywood Electricians is a one-man operation, you are guaranteed quality work (no passing work onto lackeys and unlicensed illegals). I described my half-dozen individual problems to Richard, and he responded with a creative, effective solution that dealt with all my needs while causing no damage to my home. He did all the work himself with quality materials and on time. I shopped this job to three Home Advisor recommended outfits. The first one simply never responded. The second one showed up on time and took a good look at the job. He viewed my half dozen issues as individual tasks, each needing an individual fix. He had no strategy and was soon planning jerry-rigged solutions and dramatic holes in my drywall. He didn't bother with a written invoice. His verbal price was good, but it ignored the mess he would create for me. I'm pleased to have hired Richard. I got well-executed, intelligent work. Note: only 4 stars for customer service. He was late to start, but he still did all the work in the two days we discussed."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Since the cost of installing a ceiling fan is $250 for most homeowners, it might be beneficial to replace your existing fan if you are experiencing a significant repair issue, like a broken motor. However, for less expensive repairs, like a fan blade replacement, you’ll likely spend less on the repair than a complete fan replacement. Of course, if you’re looking for an upgrade or a new style fan, replacing it altogether is always an option.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.
