"I chose this business because of the ratings, so I had some high hopes for this very small job. My expectations were to make it safer for me and the other senior who lives here. I understood that it was a patch job. The crew did a sloppy job, I was left with a 3/4 inch lip on the top end one board that is a MORE dangerous tripping hazard than the holes., and runs 6 1/2 feet--(at least you could SEE the holes). The other top board that runs the the rest of the length of the deck is also a tripping hazard. (about 1/4 of an inch higher on the edge). He came back and fixed it, so I am satisfied."

Wood epoxy is used to fill larger areas of damaged wood and has stronger adhesion than wood filler. Epoxy dries to a hard, waterproof finish and can be harder to sand than filler. You can stop wood rot in its early stages by fixing the moisture problem that led to it, treating the wood with a fungicide, filling weak spots with an epoxy wood filler, and sealing the wood against future moisture. Depending on the extent of the damage, already rotted wood may need to be replaced if it’s no longer structurally sound.

The raw materials inside wood filler work as a binding agent that, once dry, stays hard and helps reinforce wood. It's a great way to help older lumber maintain its integrity and strength if you're looking to, say, build a new piece of furniture from old or repurposed wood.
