"Seamus was easy to work with, gave me the explanation of the gutter work I needed, was trustworthy, professional and worked quickly. My husband and I are very happy with our new gutters. One little complaint, There was a small area sawed out of a "trellis" over our front door. We didn't notice it until Seamus was packed up and gone but don't understand why this was done and not brought to our attention. Can it be fixed?"

"a bit on the expensive side, but the workers and service were top notch. they not only cleaned off my roofs and cleared the gutters, they cleaned the tree litter from all around my house, made a couple of minor repairs to the gutters, and then afterwards sent me pictures of the gutter system to illustrate what they had done and where future improvements should be made. it was a great experience."

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

When it comes to which gutter material is better, the choice really boils down to what you're looking for in a gutter system. If saving money is the most important factor, then your best option is to go for aluminum gutters. If longevity and durability are more important to you, then copper gutters could be the best fit. If you want to customize the color of your gutters, aluminum takes the cake, but if you're looking for a more natural appearance, copper might be a better choice.

Absolutely—and lots of it. Overflowing water from your gutters can damage your siding and your roof. All of the moisture getting into the cracks and crevices of your home can lead to mold or mildew problems down the line. In addition, when water pools around your home, it needs a place to go—and sometimes it ends up inside the house, creating a very unwanted flood.

Gutter repair costs around $400 on average, and prices range from $200 up to $650 in most cases. You can expect to pay between $4 and $30 per linear foot. The best way to get an accurate estimate is to have a professional come out to price your project. Some factors that influence your total include the following:

  • Number of linear feet of gutter to repair

  • Gutter style

  • Gutter material

  • Accessibility of the gutters

  • Whether you have seamless or seamed gutters

  • Type of necessary repairs

Yes, it is okay to knock down icicles yourself. Just make sure to take the proper safety precautions. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, contact a roofing professional.

Gutters should not drip at the seams. This problem could indicate that water is collecting in the gutters instead of moving to the downspouts. You could have leaves or other debris blocking the flow of water at the seams. Try cleaning the gutters, adjusting the slope, and sealing any holes or cracks in the material to fix this problem.
