"Sergio did a fantastic job! Very happy with the clean install of my tier 2 charger and he added a plug down below my panel. Would recommend for any sort of EV charging installs! Clear communicator, showed up when he said he would and his services were well-priced!"

"Jeremy provided great service during the quote and installation process. He even identified a potential issue with our electrical system to have looked as we are under warranty. We appreciate the on time and professional service provided. Thank you for your assistance and if further services are needed in the future, I will look to them first."

"Derek with HPS was very friendly quick to answer the phone and listen to the problem I was having with my generator. He was able to come out to my residence quickly, explain to me the issue in a way I could understand and repair the unit. I highly suggest HPS to anyone having generator issues. I will be using them for my annual preventative maintenance as well from here on out."

"They are knowledgeable and installed the car charging station in my garage. I had compared with other companies who seemed to be cutting corners, and I felt McKee was doing things the right way so I chose them. His communication was good, he was on time, and followed through on what he said he would do. Good, clean, and professional. I intend to have him back out for my next electrical project."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

The amount of time a standby generator can run continuously is around 3,000 hours on average. However, standby generators can generally run indefinitely as long as they have a continuous fuel supply. Generators hooked up to a home’s natural gas supply are the best option for extended usage, as these won’t rely on a finite fuel supply based on how much you have in storage. Generators running on liquid propane or diesel won’t last as long, as these require fuel storage and regular refueling to stay running.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.
