"This company did such a significant amount of work for a great price. When they finished it was all clean and all trash hauled away on top of that. 4 jacaranda trees and a hideous callery pear tree were cut all down to stump. The blooming jacarandee tree in my front was a nightmare to clean up and was reduced significantly as well. Will was able to get rid of all thick tall weeds that took over the yard and haul it away. Avocado, citrus, mango, and guava trees were trimmed very nicely and shaped well. The overall look and management of yard property is 10x better than it has ever seen in a long time. I definitely would recommend him for his reasonable price, amount of work, and professionalism. Ill look to hire him in the future for my tree ans gardening needs. It was a great experience. Thank you Will and the team!"

"Progressive Tree Care did a great job trimming 4 fruit trees that had become overgrown. They followed my instructions and made sure to clean up everything when the job was complete. The price was fair and they stuck to it."

"We called California Arborist to diagnose and treat several trees that appeared sickly. Derrick promptly came out. He was extremely knowledgeable. Derrick quickly diagnosed the problem and suggested a treatment plan. We had Derrick treat the trees as suggested. Wow!! The trees almost immediately responded favorably to the treatment. I've spoken to other tree "services" in the past and they invariably recommend to just chop down the tree. What a pleasant change!

Arborists questions, answered by experts

DIY is risky and not recommended for large trees; professional services ensure safe removal and proper disposal.

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

No. Topping a tree refers to severely cutting down all its major branches and tree in a straight line. It was once recommended for streetside deciduous trees but has fallen out of practice. Topping leads to many problems, removing so much of the tree that many trees struggle to survive and become much more vulnerable to insects and diseases. Also, it doesn’t really help tree growth as once assumed and often leads to an ugly appearance of many sprouting stems in competition to become new main branches.
