"Excellent design and workmanship. Very easy to work with and they communicated each step of the job with me. I waited a while to post review to see how the concrete and rock work held up. After a year and a half, with lots of traffic there has been no issues. I heartily recommend Early Bird and would definitely use them again."

"In a week's time, they appraised the work needed--tree removal, grinding stump and remove three large branches from an oak tree that was leaning over the road--scheduled the work and completed the work on time. Cleanup was spotless. Olga and Efren were engaging and very informative. I recommend their work and I would hire them again."

"Abatement project/job. Letter from Redding Fire Department citing California fire code violations (hazardous vegetation). Cleared tall grass and removed several large dead trees within 100 ft of structures and 10 ft from roadways. Completed job a few days after estimate (much earlier than expected). Great communication via email and phone. I live out of the area (Los Angeles/Culver City) and had to rely exclusively on this type of communication/interaction with this business. Paid invoice via credit card upon completion. No problems to report. Satisfactory work from start to finish."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

When spring arrives, it’s best to hold off on mowing until temperatures have consistently reached a temperature of at least 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Attempting to mow grass that hasn't fully thawed from its winter dormancy can harm the delicate blades. Ensure your grass is dry before mowing and aim to mow when the grass is about three to four inches tall, trimming no more than one-third of the grass blade's height at a time. This timing encourages healthy growth and prevents shock to the grass, preparing your lawn for a happy, healthy growing season.

Mow before aeration. After you've aerated the lawn, you can fertilize, water, and overseed. But wait at least two weeks after aeration before you mow.

Signs of an overwatered lawn can be visual, physical, or related to pests and weeds. Visually, the grass may appear yellow, wilted, patchy, or thin instead of green and lush. You might also notice the presence of mushrooms, other fungal growths, or an increase in weeds like crabgrass. Physically, the soil may be waterlogged, soggy, and perpetually damp. An overwatered lawn often feels mushy or makes a squishing sound underfoot, even several hours after watering. Additionally, you may see an increase in pests such as grubs. To prevent overwatering, ensure your lawn has proper drainage through periodic aeration and adjust your watering schedule to meet its actual needs.

To prepare your lawn for core aeration, water it the day before you aerate. (Alternatively, you can wait until it rains and aerate the following day.) Aerating after watering or a rainy day will make the process easier since you can penetrate moist soil better than dry soil. You should also flag your sprinklers so that you don’t accidentally hit them while aerating. If you have a lot of thatch buildup in your yard, you might need to dethatch your lawn before aerating as well.

Lawns can be high maintenance, and therefore require regular spending if you’re not up for doing certain lawn care tasks yourself. But you can save time and money on lawn maintenance by mulching, composting, and planting species native to your area, so they keep alive with less ongoing TLC from you.
