"Excellent work. He did what he said he was going to do, remove ivy from an old fence. Cheerful, always smiling and efficient. Good cleanup. Would hire Raphael again without hesitation."

"Sean Brennan is a skilled, honest, hardworking person. He and his crew did an amazing job transforming our dirt lot of a backyard. They worked quickly, finished sooner than expected, with great attention to quality and left the area clean. His price was very fair. I would highly recommend him."

"Fausto and his crew were easy to work with, professional, and friendly. We wanted to extend our existing patio and add a pad for shed. Fausto came out to my house, took measurements, offered ideas and sent me a quote that evening. When his crew came out to set the forms for the concrete some plants had to be removed and it was done with care for the surrounding area. We had a fence post that needed repair, I asked if they could handle that too the answer was yes and fence problem solved. When it's time for the walkways I know who I am going to call. "I used Jimmie for a fence install around the perimeter of my property. I had to coordinate with 3 neighbors. Jimmie was great right from the start. His quote was specific to each neighbor. One of my neighbors wanted something a little different and Jimmie was able to incorporate that into the job. All 3 neighbors and me were super satisfied. We did the project at a time when supplies were difficult to get. He was able to all supplies and negotiated the price to a reasonable level. More important, though, he did a fantastic jobâ ¦.very high quality work done in the estimated time frame for completion at a reasonable price. I canâ t give him a high enough recommendation. I will be using him for other projects. You should, too!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The best wood for fence posts are redwood, cedar, and pressure-treated pine. Wood posts made from these materials will typically lasts between 15 and 30 years, depending on the specific type you choose and your local climate. With proper care and maintenance, a fence post made of these materials can withstand most weather conditions.

There are many types of wood fencing that you can choose from. For split rail fencing, the most common wood types are cedar, pine, black locust, and chestnut. The best wood for you will depend on if you like the way a certain wood looks and the availability of the wood type in your area.

Most of the wood types you can find at your local home improvement store are good choices since they all have rot-resistant properties or are pressure-treated with pesticides. If none of the wood options speak to the look you’re going for, check out vinyl fencing.

Who pays for a new fence between neighbors depends on its location relative to the property line. If you build the fence entirely on your property, you are solely responsible for the costs of installation, maintenance, and repair. If the fence is built directly on the property line, both neighbors are typically responsible for the costs. In this case, it is essential to consult with your neighbor beforehand to agree on a plan for payment. While you should always inform your neighbor of your plans in advance, you generally cannot force them to contribute financially unless there are specific local laws, such as in California, where both parties might be responsible for costs unless a different agreement exists. It's a good idea to get a property line survey to know the exact boundaries before building.

Of all the fencing options, the cheapest type is a repurposed pallet fence because it’s made of used materials that are easy to find for free. But if you’re not interested in the DIY game, customize a covered chain link fence or a plain wood fence to provide the best privacy possible.

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.
