"Martin and his team were a joy to work with on our new kitchen counters. Martin walked us through choosing our stone and explained the fabrication process and within days we are now sitting at our new counters enjoying our morning coffee. Check out the attached pictures. Great overall experience 10 stars! Thanks again Martin and Jose!!"

"I had purchased a new home that had a existing Giallo Santo Granite island countertop with sink and a Giallo Santo counter with top set cooktop . I wanted to extend the island out into a T-Island shape using the same Giallo Santo granite to keep costs down. Bianco Oliveria - San Diego Rocktops recommended I demo the existing granite island because the granite was going to butt up to each other and would not match. In addition, my home had a top set cooktop which I wanted to replace with a professional slide in cooktop so the existing granite had to be cut to resize to accept the new slide in cooktop. Bianco explained the process and informed me of the process and cost. He recommended several granite companies and the approximate cost of the slabs. I paid for the slabs separately from the installation costs. Installation/fabrication/demo costs were around $2600.00. Bianco and his company are very professional and performed all items as agreed. My T-Island is beautiful and I have received many compliments and my new slide in cooktop fits as if it were installed from the start. After all services were performed Bianco called to ensure everything was performed to my satisfaction. He is very professional and I would use them again in the future.

"We are delighted with the work done by Modern Home Remodeling, to install a classy tiled shower, repaint the interior and replace carpets. Their project manager clearly listened to our needs and wants = to freshen rather than redesign, to keep the oak vanities and good-condition countertops, to correct small “problems” that we’d lived with for decades, and to focus on changes that we’ll enjoy in the ten years that we still plan to live in this home. The tiled shower transformed the shower experience, brought spaciousness to a small room, and was done by an accommodating and experienced crew. The project manager expedited the schedule, committing to a start date of February 20 but beginning the work a month earlier and finishing by February 28, 2023. He brought tile and carpet samples to the house, that both followed the earth tones in our home and created a light pattern-rich tiled shower. Our disruption and moving of personal items was minimized as the painting was done in four days and was followed three days later by a one-day carpet installation. Overall, this remodeling brought us upgrades that we already enjoy, a month of amicable and focused contractors, and efficient planning and execution by Modern Home Remodeling and its subcontractors. Anne and Dave, San Diego"

"Miguel and his crew did a good job and their price was WELL below other licensed contractor estimates (Miguel is licensed by the Contractors State License Board...with no complaint activity... is bonded and, according to the CSLB, has workers' comp for his employees...he also has an A+ rating with the BBB). Communication was a little hit-and-miss (particularly by email), but if it was important he always got back to me quickly (since I suspect that he's in the field quite a bit, texting and phone calls work best). He stuck to the anticipated install schedule and completed the demo and install in the same day (as promised). I had some minor issues that I had him come back for and he and his crew were very quick in returning to take a look (the issue ended up being with the granite itself and nothing that they had done)."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

Recycled glass countertops are slightly cheaper than quartz countertops, though it depends on several factors. Recycled glass countertops cost between $65 and $140 per square foot, and quartz countertops cost $50 to $200 per square foot, though most projects come in at $70 to $100 per square foot. The final cost will come down to the quality of the material, local labor prices, and any customizations you require.

Quartz countertops are not recommended for outdoor use. While durable indoors, they are not designed to withstand outdoor conditions like sunlight, weather, and high heat from barbeque grills. Exposure to these elements, particularly UV rays, can cause the resins in the quartz to break down, leading to discoloration and damage to the surface. For a longer-lasting outdoor countertop, it is better to choose a natural stone like granite, which has greater resistance to these elements.

Quartz countertops are known for their durability, but they aren’t indestructible. Quartz countertops can crack under extreme pressure, like when experiencing a heavy impact. The same can happen with regular exposure to high temperatures. Finally, improper installation makes the quartz more vulnerable.

Silicone caulk is the most common adhesive used to attach a vanity top. It’s flexible, water-resistant, and resistant to mold and mildew, which can grow in humid environments like a bathroom. While you can apply caulk without a caulk gun, the application is easier and less messy with a quality caulk gun for a more even application.

While Caesarstone countertops are heat-resistant, placing hot pots directly on them is not recommended. Extreme heat can cause thermal shock, potentially leading to cracks or discoloration. Always use trivets or heat pads to protect the surface and maintain its appearance and integrity. This precaution helps ensure the longevity of your Caesarstone countertop.
