Customers say: Quick response

"Well, this was an early Christmas gift! Found Dylan through home advisors. He promptly called after we sought a handyman to replace our fireplace mantle. Itâ s harder than heck to find someone, anyone, to do small household projects, let alone someone so quickly. We exchanged photos of the old mantle and the new one. Dylan promised to stop by to finally estimate the project. Hereâ s the best part: Dylan, who makes for a very good first impression, offered to start the job right then and there, saying he could do the demo work and finish two days later. Hereâ s the even better part: He completed the demo and then mounted the new new mantle the same day. We were very happy with the care he took as he did the project, including adding an additional way to secure the mantle to the wall so not even one of our famous earthquakes could move it from its mountings. Really excellent work. We would definitely hire him again. Patrick"

Small jobs welcome

"Amazing general contractor!!! Worked with Blake and his team to help rebuild a couple of our rooms damaged by a tree that fell. He was helpful in communicating with our insurance and met their qualifications and pricing. He was professional and on-site doing the work himself most days. He communicated really well about any needs and kept me up-to-date. I plan to work with him on future projects. I can't recommend him more highly."

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

A designer is a great choice for remodeling projects that don’t require significant structural work. For remodeling that includes structural work like removing load-bearing walls, altering exterior walls, or adding on a room, an architect can design and execute the renovations while ensuring your home remains structurally sound.

No, it’s not legal for unlicensed individuals to conduct structural calculations for buildings or building repairs. Not only do licensing requirements prevent DIYers from tackling this project, but mistakes can also be extremely dangerous and put your property and anyone inside or near it at risk of severe injury or even death. You should always hire a licensed and certified local structural engineer to make structural calculations.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.
