Duvall Construction

Zach committed to be the kit home assembly and finish contractor, building upon a foundation to be provided by others. I paid a $1500 retainer to Zach in mid-2017 to come up to speed on assembling the kit home, and to prepare a detailed cost estimate. I provided 80% plans (with all detail relevant to his work finalized) in mid-October 2017. I delivered the plans and requested a cost estimate within 4 to 6 weeks. I inquired again in January 2018 and in July 2018 as to progress. Zach advised me in August 2018 that he would not act as contractor due to high increases by his subcontractors (due a local fire-replacement building boom). I said that I still needed the cost estimate, and he agreed to complete it. Due to his family difficulties, I deferred the deadline until November. No cost estimate was ever produced. After a 15-month delay, when I advised him that I wanted a full refund, he returned $1000, charging me $500 for ZERO work product. Stay clear of this contractor!

It will be impossible to convey in this review how thrilled my wife and I have been with Zach, his team, and the OUTSTANDING quality of his work. I have worked with a number of contractors over the years, and I can say with no reservations that Zach and Duvall Construction are BY FAR the absolute best team of professionals that I have ever worked with. We have worked with Zach and his team now on various projects over the course of 8 months, and for as long as he and his team are around, we will continue to them and only them. First communication. Zach (besides being an incredibly nice person), makes himself available to answer questions by phone, email, or text pretty much any time. His responses are timely, clear, and incredibly helpful. And most of the time, he is proactive about his communication and providing updates and often answers my questions before I even ask them. Timeliness. When Zach says something will be done by a certain date, it will be done by that date, and often before that date (he and his team work incredibly quickly, with absolutely no sacrifices in quality. If for some reason the RARE occasion arrises that there is a slight delay, there is a good reason and there is clear and early communication about any changes. Quality: My wife and I have been beyond impressed with the quality of Zach and his team's work. From preserving our pine wood walls after putting in a closet, to intricate tile work in the bathroom, to the BEAUTIFUL decks he and his team built for us. You can tell that Zach loves his work, and he has a team that invests themselves in the work as if they are working on their own home. Professionalism. Zach and his entire team are incredibly pleasant to work with. Friendly, hard working, dedicated, and skilled. Anytime they finish a project, the clean up is pristine. Zach is also always willing to help with decision making when choices are overwhelming (we have often been in this scenario), but he is very skilled at balancing suggestions with autonomy. Zach has made us feel like a member of his team, and through collaboration we are beyond happy with the choices we've made and the work he and his team has done. I cannot speak highly enough of Zach and his team. His prices are more than reasonable and we have never felt over charged for anything. He and his team have transformed our new home into our dream home, and made the entire experience incredibly pleasant and even fun. It can be hard to find a good contractor. If you need a general contractor and a team of incredibly skilled, dedicated, pleasant, and professional craftsmen, Duvall Construction is a no brainer. Best home improvement decision we have ever made.

Great job, clean work, done earlier than expected. Love the tile work, absolutely beautiful! Very professional!!! Came in under budget. This is the only contractor we will ever use. 

We decided to try and flip a house. There was a home close to us, that came on the market at a very good price. We felt it was due to cosmetic damages. We call Zach to look at the house before we purchased it, to get an estimate to fix everything we needed to, in order to resell and make money in a timely fashion.  Zach told us he could give a ball park number on the spot, then it would take a few days for him to check prices and give us a written proposal with exact costs.  He told us about $30,000 to complete our list of upgrades. We were very happy, this was within the budget we had.  But we explained this would have to be done very quickly so we could re-list the home.  We purchased the home, Zach gave us the written proposal which came in under his ballpark number.  He worked with our schedule, he started the day escrow closed. He told us about 3 weeks and finished everything in that time frame. He has a very professional crew that he works very closely with. The work was done with his usual attention to detail and high quality. He does some of the best custom tile work I have seen.

Called back Duvall Construction as they had done such a great job for us before.  Zach came right out and gave us a bid for $5200 to remodel our guest bathroom and install a new window.  His contract was very detailed and fair. There were no extras added during the process.  He came in with his crew and removed old tile and tub. His crew was very happy and professional.  They came back the next day and started the install. Zach did the custom tile work himself and does a beautiful job.  He went above and beyond. Many hours on the phone with us helping us make decisions on tile and fixtures, and met us at the tile store to help pick out tile and offer suggestions, he didn't charge us for any of this added time.  He really goes out of his way to fulfill his contract and keep his clients happy.  My wife is pregnant and he was very careful to not have dust around the house during the work, he taped up plastic over the doorway and kept fans blowing dust outside.  He is by far the best contractor I have ever hired. We will have them back.

I called Zach and he responded and came that day to look at my project. He looked at the guest cottage plans we had drawn up and gave us a bid within 3 days.  He also included repairing our retaining wall that had been damaged by a fallen tree.  We were very happy with his bid. We got 3 separate bids from local contractors, his was not the lowest, but they were so close and we liked his professionalism and knowledge. He has a 4 man crew that he works very closely with. Everyone on the crew was professional and definitely followed his lead on keeping clients happy.
They were able to get the materials delivered with in 2 weeks and started the project then. He did A++ work, clean and precise.  He left the job site clean every day, which made my wife happy. His custom tile work (which he does himself and takes pride in) was beautiful. That being said, he takes pride in everything his company does. You can tell he cares about every job he takes on.  He was always fast to answer any calls and questions we has. He finished ahead of our deadline as we had a large anniversary party planned and needed all work completed in a short time frame.  He squeezed us in his schedule between other jobs, just to make sure we had our needs met.  He really lives up to his company moto.. Building your dreams.  We are very satisfied and will hire Duvall Construction for any jobs in the future.  We are getting a bid now for a custom redwood fence. When my wife found out, they do everything from fences to new homes, her wish list started.  Thank you to Duvall Construction for keeping the wife happy!

We had Duvall Construction back. This time the did a deck and built a mud room.  This was the best experience. The crew is all professional, happy and skilled.  They show up when they say, leave the job immaculate and completed on time. Zach makes our life so much easier, we just tell him what we want and come back and it is done and all cleaned up. I love this company and will hire them for every job I have.

Duvall Construction was back at my home again. I am never disappointed with this company.  I wanted to add a deck to my granny unit.  Zach referred us to a draftsman, we got the plans drawn up and then contacted him again.  Zach took our plans to the county and got all the proper permits.  He came out with his crew. They are all very professional and courteous. I was once at my kitchen window and could here the pep talk given to his employees at the start of the day and he said "just remember your main job is to keep my clients happy and satisfied with the work and keep the job site clean at all times".  What a great thing!  I was already impressed with his company and then that just made it even better.  His employees are happy and work hard. At the end of each day, I watched Zach walk around with a large rolling magnet, thru the entire area they were working. He was picking up every little little screw from the demo of my old deck.  I said, "Don't you do that at the end of the job, you don't have to do it every day, we won't be in that area until you are done any way."  His response was, but your dog might come over here.  He was making sure my dog wasn't going to step on a screw :) Wow, I call that above and beyond.  I now have a beautiful deck on our granny unit. At the end of the job, he charged me less then the contract we had. He said the digging went way easier then he anticipated, so the money he figure for that part of the job was less. He passed that along to us. He didn't have to do that, we had a contract and were happy with the price.  We can't wait to hire him again for every future project. THANK YOU ZACH!! I first contacted Duvall Construction in Jan to get an idea of cost for my project-- replacing 3 old windows and building a new redwood fence.
 Zach got back to me the same day. I told him there was no hurry for the project, I was just looking for cost so I could plan ahead. He came out a couple days later and gave some ideas on the projects and a few cost projections.  I called him back in mid May and got on his schedule for the beginning of June.  He was not the cheapest estimate I received, however I noticed he was also including a lot more.
Example.. Zach was including 3 bags of concrete per post on my fence, using pressure treated posts and giving me a higher quality of lumber.  A different contractor I got a cheaper estimate from was only using 1 bag, not pressure treated and low grade lumber (when I asked him to match the things listed on Duvall Construction proposal, the other company was much higher.)
I asked Zach about this and he said the concrete was actually the required amount for the height of the posts and many people do cut corners on that, however it isn't correct. He also said he could use the lesser quality fence boards if I chose, but when he showed me the difference, I agreed with him to go with the better quality. 
Duvall Construction is a company that takes pride in their quality of work and should, they did beautiful work. I had a gorgeous custom fence.  My neighbors can't stop complimenting the unique fence I chose.  Zach removed and replace my windows as well, and I couldn't be happier.
They made sure my home was cleaned up everyday, answered all my silly questions and did very high quality work.  
 2 weeks after the job was complete, they even called to make sure everything was good. I said yes!! He told me that sometimes when the fence settles and the wood shrinks, the gate needs a few minor adjustments to swing perfectly. At that time it was fine, about a week later the gate did start to stick a little. I called Zach, he came out that day after work and adjusted it at no charge and it has been perfect ever since :)
I am going to have them come back next year and build a matching fence around the front of my house as well.

I was so excited to get this work done. My husband and I had saved for a long time for this job. We are so happy with the finished project. Zach and his employees were always professional and pleasant.  It is really nice to see a contractor truly enjoy his work, and it shows in the attention to every detail.  He came out for a cost projection the day we called and asked about the job.  He then emailed up a complete contract with all work to be done, written in detail.  He was very knowledgeable about the County Permit process and offered to handle it for us or explain how we could do it to save on expenses. When he explained that the permits we needed were basic and could be purchased online we decided to do that.  As soon as we had the permits, he came over and looked at permits and was there for the drop off of all materials. The next day Zach and his crew began work.  They took care to watch out for any landscaping and potted plants.  They pulled off all our old siding and replaced with new, plus added in 6 new windows and a new front door.  Of course we knew we had dry rot (as he had pointed it out in the beginning) he explained he could give us an idea on expenses to repair, but until he pulled off the siding he couldn't give an accurate cost on that part. So when he removed the siding and exposed the dry rot, he said it was really no big deal (10 min repair) and didn't charge extra.  He was very knowledgeable about everything, even suggesting we add some electrical outlets while the walls were already open, and we had none outside.  The job was cleaned up everyday!! We have 1 small child and were concerned about debris after the job (nails etc).
They left my house/yard very clean every time they were here, even went around with a magnet and picked up stuff. The new windows made such a difference.  Thank you Zach, you made this a very pleasant experience!! I LOVE my new home and can't wait for the summertime to show it off to the family.  I will refer you to everyone!!

Zach was completely professional throughout the process and we couldn't be happier with the results. Zach was always on time and delivered exactly what he promised. We would definitely use him again and have been recommending him to our friends and neighbors.

Zach Duvall guided us to a draftsman, who drew up the plans. Zach made the necessary corrections to get the plans approved and personally walked it through the County review process. His subcontractors in plumbing, electrical, taping and debris collection were all completely professional. Zach and his crew were on site every day, and sometimes on the weekends in order to finish in a timely manner. His concern with noise and dust with the neighbors was outstanding. His follow thru in every area was very detailed. He also suggested several design amendments that were a great improvement. He is expert at laying tile himself, and the bathroom looks fabulous. He was meticulous at laying the hardwood flooring and woodwork thru-out the remodel. In addition, he and his crew are upbeat and positive - making the process of a remodel actually pleasant. There were no surprise charges and he was more than fair with changes we initiated, making it easy for us to have what we want. When his motto says, and quot;Building your dreamsand quot;, he wasn't kidding. We could not recommend him more highly.

He's been very good. He is on time and very professional.

Zach was very professional throughout the entire process. He walked us through all the steps he'd take, and made sure to contact us at appropriate moments to tell us what he was going to do and get our permission. (We don't live at the house full time.) The work looks great.

Duvall has been absolutely unbelievable. He has been incredible. He is coming back again next week and every time, he seems to give more and more. He is fantastic and I found him from your listing. The $ 20, 000 worth of work includes his work and the sub contracted work. What impressed me is his communication, his attention to detail, the timeliness and his efficiency and I think he is very reasonable. His attention to details is just unbelievable. We are getting ready to contract four more projects for him, for the down stairs and for bathroom remodel.

We have been burned in the past by a couple of contractors and consequently have developed a policy of DIY. The upside to that is we have become familiar with building procedures and have a feel for prices and time frames. The jobs we wanted accomplished now were beyond of our level of competency, and we knew it. I am happy to say Angie's List has been a great resource.
Zach Duvall returned my initial phone call within an hour and was on site by late afternoon. He provided references which I contacted the next morning. The enthusiasm and loyalty of his clients blew me away. They described him asand quot;perfectand quot;,and quot;dependableand quot;,and quot;thoroughand quot;,and quot;meticulousand quot;and were content to go on at length about the jobs he had done for them and how pleased they were with his work.
My recommendation could only heap more praise on him. He is kind and considerate (of people, pets and landscaping). The subcontractors he uses are likewise thoughtful. I asked the bobcat operator if he had time to take the ruts out of my neighbor's driveway which he did, and the next day the asphalt contractor offloaded excess gravel in her drive and compacted it. This was all beyond the scope of what was required for my job. I think it speaks volumes about the quality and dedication of Mr. Duvall and the people he depends on to maintain his reputation.
The driveway was finished in 4 days. It turned out exactly as I envisioned. Neighbors have been amazed at the speed and lack of inconvenience. We have a curb now, so I can truly say we have curb appeal.
And we are currently negotiating with Mr. Duvall to provide a partial upgrade of our foundation. In fact, I think his proposal is waiting in my email. Gotta go and get the good news. Zach Duvall will be our contractor as long as he's in the business.
