"Michael is very professional and showed up on time. We had him take care of some hazardous trees and we asked him to cut everything into manageable sizes for us to be able to split ourselves. He does great work and we will be using his services again in the future. I highly recommend Axcess Tree Services."

"This was for the removal of two dead trees that were near our house. Very professional and efficient, and had all the right tools and equipment. Different people from the same company also do our monthly pest service, and we are pleased with that as well."

"The young guy who did the work was prompt and professional, but not well trained. He power washed my patio BEFORE blowing the leaves and sticks off my roof, so all the debris landed on my just cleaned patio, and he didn't follow up to clean it off.
He forgot to do the garage door and was all packed up when he asked me to inspect, so I just let it ride.

"Everything went well and they did a great job. They cleaned up the mess and they all did an excellent job putting the cut wood in a pile as I wanted to keep the wood. Very hardworking people! I would recommend CalTrees and owner Edwin in any tree removal needs. He worked with my budget and easy to talk to."

"A bit pricey. Tree crew was hard-working, courteous, safe and professional. Office could communicate schedule changes to customer in more timely manner. The crew failed to show up the first scheduled day and we were not informed by the office until later in the day with the explanation that a previous work project was taking longer than expected even though they were aware of the delay a day or two before our project date. This tardy notification caused us considerable inconvenience."

"He was very helpful. I learnt something about what was necessary and how to get the job done. It was a time and materials kind of quote and then a rough idea of what that would be. I haven?t used them yet, and haven?t done that particular job at all."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

Generally, avoid trimming trees in the summer (with the exception of pruning fruit trees as needed). Trees use a lot of energy in the summer, most of which is relegated to new growth. If you chop it too early, you could stunt the next season's growth. Again, when in doubt, do some research based on the specific tree type.

Yes, you should trim the lower branches of your maple tree for safety. Trimming maple trees as they grow helps lift the crown and canopy and trains it to grow straight up. A good rule of thumb is to prune enough branches to leave 6 feet of clearance under the tree.
