"Sam the Air doctor took time out of his very busy schedule to come and help me out with my thermostat. It took him seconds to figure out what the problem was with it. Not only he fixed the problem right away but also gave me advice on how to keep my ac unit working the way it should. His prices are very fair. Never felt like he was charging more than what he should for his work. From now and on we will call anyone else. All we need is our Air Doctor. Very happy client over here. Thank you again."

"I went thru Angi and I got a response the day I contacted them. Bell Brothers was the 3rd quote we were getting. They came out on a Saturday and we signed up that day for AC and a total replacement of windows for our house. They were thorough, professional and patient with our questions. No more miserable summers! Thank you Bell Brothers."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

A new HVAC system can increase your home's value by about 5% to 7%, which can translate to an added value of $2,500 to $3,000. The return on investment (ROI) can be around 30%, especially if you upgrade the entire system, including ductwork and insulation. Adding modern features like a smart thermostat can further increase your home’s value by making the heating and cooling systems more efficient and convenient. However, since a new unit can cost $10,000 or more to install, it's important to weigh the upfront cost against the potential increase in home value. For a specific assessment, it's best to consult a local AC installer.

The top reason to purchase an HVAC maintenance contract is the fact that it ensures you are detecting problems before they turn into expensive fixes. Secondly, this type of contract provides priority service, which is nice if it’s peak busy season. Finally, an HVAC maintenance contract provides discounts on parts and labor for repairs, which can save you a good amount of money if your unit breaks.

Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. Your prices could be a little higher if you have a very large home with multiple condensers and air handlers, as inspections and servicing take longer.

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.

While Freon is mostly odorless, a Freon leak will produce a faint chloroform-like smell. Some people find that Freon's odor has a subtle sweetness to it. Some telltale signs of a Freon leak beyond odor include ice crystals on your evaporator coil, bubbling sounds, and hissing noises.
