Customers say: Quick response

"I am very pleased with the work done by Capital Carpentry. I needed to remove a rotten door from my garage. It turned out that siding had to be installed in place of the door. However, my entire wall was so old and rotten that we had to do siding on the entire wall. Eugene initially wanted to replace the windows, but due to various reasons, it didn't work out, and we decided to go with a wall without windows. Even so, it looks much better now. The team worked in extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 115 degrees Fahrenheit. They worked in the sun all day, from 7 AM to 7 PM. They worked quickly, precisely, and efficiently. I never thought his team could complete such a job in such a short time. A huge thank you to him and his entire team, and I highly, highly recommend Capital Carpentry."

"Leo was very helpful and quick to respond. We’re happy with how our 2 bathrooms turned out. Project was completed within the time promised. Our only complaint is that the workers did not clean up very well. But overall, we’re satisfied and we’ll use them again."

"David did an excellent job installing our French entry door. He was punctual, professional, and completed the work quickly while keeping everything very clean. The installation was done at a high level of quality, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. On top of that, he is a very pleasant and respectful person to work with. Highly recommend!"

Window Screen Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost of a window repair varies significantly depending on which part is damaged. Here is a breakdown of common repairs and their estimated costs:

  • Broken seal or fogginess between panes: $70–$245

  • Cracked pane: $40–$100

  • Broken glass: $200–$2,000

  • Sash, seal, or track repair: $200–$600

  • Latch or hardware issues: $75–$200

  • Broken window frame: $175–$1,000

  • Window screen replacement: $140–$480

There are different types of screen materials available when purchasing a screen door, but the two main options are fiberglass and aluminum. Fiberglass is lightweight and affordable, but can stretch out, so it needs to be replaced more often. Aluminum has a higher upfront cost, but is more sturdy. Aluminum can be more difficult to install, even if you know how to replace screen door mesh.

The steps to replace a retractable screen can vary, but these are the general steps: First, remove the screen cover to expose the screen mechanism and remove the clip that holds the screen in place. Next, depress the end of the screen mechanism so it releases from the door frame. Take your new screen and fit one end into the frame. You may need to rotate the mechanism to engage the spring before inserting the other end into the frame. Finally, pull the screen down the length of the door’s opening and lock it in place with the clip.

The screen on many screen doors is held in place by screen spline. Screen spline is typically a thin vinyl tubing that fits into the groove of the door’s frame and holds the screen in place. To install the spline on a screen door, you’ll need a spline roller—a tool that presses the spline and screen into the door’s narrow groove. Note that old spline can crack and break, so replacing your screens is a good time to replace the spline, too.

If you’re not keen on using a traditional doggie door, there are some alternatives. One popular option is a solid, insulated door that you can lock when you’re out of the home for added security. You can also opt for a doggie screen, which you can lift and lower to allow your pooch access to the outdoors. These are a bit more convenient to use than a regular exterior door, although security could be an issue. You can also install a screen door with a small opening for your pup to prevent bugs from coming inside as your dog exits.
