"Project: Grading. We highly recommend Andrew! Very professional, prompt, and great communication with the homeowners! We are super excited to complete the now graded, clean state, backyard. He even encouraged us to make contact again, if we had any further questions or need advice after further installation of pavers/ grass/ pergola (our next step). "Alex and his team were finally the answer to my struggles! I cannot stress or overstate how professional, yet personable!!, Alex and his guys are! I am getting on in age, now 60, and suddenly I could not 'hop up" on my retaining wall to get into the flower bed anymore! I had brought Alex out for estimates and meet and greet for 3 or more projects we have in mind. I HAVE to get estimates first and then budget it in to my current spending budget and Alex was very gracious and accommodating to help me, not only get the free estimates, but spent much time with me, coming back on multiple occasions to just plan and come up with a number of solutions for each idea I had for each section of landscape!!! He realized, that my husband now working out of state was leaving me pretty alone to deal with this and he stepped up as a professional and as a person to help me! We started with stairs leading up the retaining wall so I could get up there without hurting myself and he made them nice an"

"How do you spell "better than excellent?" The Tatum crew brought in enough men & equipment to do our mid-sized job perfectly in 1 day! It has taken care of the shoddy job we paid a fortune to another company & it looks great! Our neighbors are impressed with the quality job. Thanks Tatum!"

"Ed Madruga came out promptly, and was very helpful, knowledgeable, and forthright. He was so helpful, I may end up doing the project myself. If not, he will likely get the job. Later, I came to my senses and had him do the job. He had the right equipment and knew exactly what to do. Got it all done in less time than expected, and charged less than quoted. I highly recommend Madruga Construction."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

After you successfully remove your boulder, you have a few options for what to do to get rid of it. You can rent a dumpster if your yard has many boulders or if you’re planning a larger project. You can even save the boulder and reuse it elsewhere on your property to save on landscaping costs. A few ideas include using the boulder as a natural, abstract statue, breaking it into smaller pieces to line your garden bed, or offering it to a landscaping company that could reuse it for another project.

It’s possible to transplant trees as tall as 50 feet when an experienced tree planting service uses the right equipment. However, a tree with a trunk larger than two or three inches in diameter needs to be handled by a professional in order to yield successful transplanting results. Consulting a tree planting professional is the best way to tell if your large tree can be safely transplanted.

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.
