They quickly diagnosed the issue, explained the repair process in simple terms, and had my system up and running in no time. The level of care and attention to detail was impressive, and the pricing was fair and transparent. "If I could give Cencal 10 stars - or 20 - I would! This is an ethical, compassionate, caring company owned and staffed by people who act out the company's ethos. Five years ago, when we needed a new dualpac in the middle of a cold winter, we shopped, and then chose Cencal for its responsiveness, clear information, and very competitive pricing. The installation went like a dream, and the service techs spent an entire morning at our home ensuring everything was working better than perfectly. The unit was under contract for a couple of years, and we decided to continue the contract when the "free" servicing expired. So worth the money for the peace of mind knowing our investment is being cared for by responsible reliable folks. I don't have a favorite tech: I appreciate all of them! They show up on time for appointments, and are universally businesslike and friendly. Thank you, Cencal, for making me comfortable in my home. (I'm not mentioning costs because I'm sure they're variable, but I'm on a fixed income and the service is affordable.)"

"Furnace ran without trouble while Eric was here. He inspected it and ran tests, found nothing wrong. Charged us only for the visit, and didn't try to sell us any kind of additional services. But he provided a quote for a new unit in case the noise returned and we wanted to replace the furnace, which is 20 years old. The noise returned, and we will have Eric install the replacement in a couple of days. We are happy to be repeat customers because he was professional, prompt, and helpful during the first visit."

"We recently had Mega Power Electric Inc install a solar system and panels. The President and provided excellent communication all the way through the process. He even met with us after installation to explain the almost incomprehensible PG&E bill. Although not the least expensive bid, his was competitive and I felt he was as interested in educating me about solar and the various types of panels and inverter systems as he was in selling a system. He demonstrated how the array of panels would meet our energy needs and as opposed to some of the other companies, wasn't selling us more than we needed. We are very satisfied with our solar system and I highly recommended Mega Power Electric Inc."

"Computer did the "gotta send info to Microsoft" but when tried to reboot it ran through automatic repair without success. I did all the alternative without any success. He came and picked up the hard drive on Tuesday and returned it on Saturday. Fortunately he was able to "restore" without any data loss. Very happy with outcome."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Many utility companies and government programs offer rebates or incentives for the installation of high-efficiency propane boilers. These can offset upfront costs and improve your return on investment. Check with your local utility or installer for current offers. Incentives vary by state and provider, so exploring regional programs can help maximize your savings.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

While you’ll pay more upfront for a brand-new HVAC unit, you can save money in the long run. Here’s how to save on your new HVAC system:

  • When purchasing a high-efficiency system, your energy bills will be lower in the future.

  • You may be eligible for special offers from your local energy company.

  • Depending on the system, you may be eligible for HVAC rebates and tax credits.

  • Choose to replace your air conditioning unit and furnace simultaneously to save on labor and installation costs.

In most cases, repairing a radiator is more affordable than replacing it. A typical repair may cost between $100 and $200, while a replacement can average $1,500, with a range of $250 to $2,500 depending on the unit type. Radiator issues are often simple fixes for a professional, such as a blown fuse, malfunctioning thermostat, or a loose valve, and can take less than an hour. However, if the long-term costs of fixing the radiator are higher than replacement, it's better to get a new model. It is recommended to consult a heating expert to diagnose the problem and determine the best solution for your situation.

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.
