"Harris helped us with many aspects of remodels of two separate houses. The work Harris personally conducted included: custom cabinetry fabrication & installation, window installation, interior door installation, and other custom carpentry. Harris demonstrated a high level of integrity, attention to detail, proactive communication, and craftsmanship. We highly recommend him!"

"Allwyn was super responsive and collaborative. He worked with us to design the final solution (a unique shaped concrete pad with stamp design) which ended up being much less expensive and much more beautiful and functional than the original plan (a wood deck). He went beyond what was asked to make sure he and we would be proud of the result. Allwyn asked great questions, attended to detail, and offered creative changes. We had some challenges with an electrician Allwyn subcontracted. The electrician missed some appointments. Ultimately, the work was completed and the quality was excellent. I look forward to working with Allwyn again."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"Within days of purchasing the deal, I received the instructions and paper to draw my table templates. The table has 2 drop leaves plus 2 additional leaves that can be inserted in the table. The templates were pretty easy to draw. The finished pads were delivered in a very short time. They fit the table and each of the 4 leaves perfectly and magnetically lock together to keep them aligned when on the table. A year and a half later, I still love these pads."

"I must say that working with Paul McClintock was a pleasure. I asked 3 Angie's List contractors to build a vanity at my mom's house and Paul was one of two that responded. He was able to complete the job in a reasonable period of time and overall, he delivered over 2 weeks earlier than anticipated. Paul is precise, detailed, and flexible with his schedule. He is easy to work with and I appreciated all of the ideas that Paul was able to provide along the way as well. The final product which was installed today is high quality and looks really good. The price was very reasonable especially since my mom lives outside of the city of Brea and he and his crew had to travel further. He had to come back a second time to install because my contractor did not have plumbing completed and he gladly rescheduled. I would recommend this gentleman to anyone as I was impressed with him more than any other service I have contracted on Angie's List. Thank you Mr. McClintock very much."

"Zohar at Best Builders Group came out to our house in order to check and see how and what to change in the existing kitchen. Zohar and his team of people did a wonderful remodeling job from A to Z. We were very impressed and surprised from the high quality of the work and from the professionalism of the workers. During the work, several issues came up during the remodeling project but the team and Zohar handled all of them with no effect to the completion date and with no additional cost. We are looking forward to hire them soon and to remodel all of our bathrooms."

"We wanted a deck for years, but finding the right company was tough. After meeting with Expert Home Builders, we knew they were the right choice. From the start, they were professional, transparent, and really listened to our vision. The team helped us choose materials that matched our home, and the final design was even better than we imagined. The crew showed up on time every day, worked efficiently, and kept everything clean and organized. Even when we had last-minute changes, they were super accommodating and made sure we were happy. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and you can tell they take pride in their work. We’ve already had friends over, and everyone keeps asking who built it! Highly recommend."

"The job lasted 4 days very fast and professional. the guys showed up when they said they would and worked very hard.  i emptied my kitchen cabinets before they came and then they taped paper over the insides and the hinges.  I  had not picked a paint color the day they arrived and brian went to the store and bought some samples which he applied to a cabinet for me to choose from.this was very helpful and i love the final color which is a shade  of grey.  The molding Brian chose for our flooring looks so nice we asked him to give us a price for crown molding to go round the tops of the rooms to match.
This was our first major renovation and overall am very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely recommend Protek to neighbors and friends and would also have them back to do other work in my home.
The guys also moved all my furniture and covered it to protect it from  dust and paint then when they were finished put the little felt pads on my heavy stuff to protect the new floors which we provided."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

There are two ways you can cut trim for doorways: with a miter saw or a table saw. Mitered joints need a 45-degree angle. If you’re unfamiliar with a miter saw, you might want to consider buying extra trim pieces or choosing butted joints instead. One wrong cut, and you’ll need to power up the saw again with a new piece.

Butted joints—also called shaker style—don’t need a 45-degree angle. Instead, your side pieces attach perpendicularly to the header trim and only require a straight cut.

It is not recommended to cut or drill into LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams. As major structural components of a home, their composite structure can be compromised by alterations, which can weaken them and lead to cracking over time. If you must make modifications to an LVL beam, it is crucial to consult a structural engineer or general contractor first. A professional can advise on whether it's safe and provide specifics on the appropriate bit size, depth, and directionality for any necessary drilling.

While carpenters and woodworkers perform similar tasks, their focus differs. A carpenter is typically responsible for the structural woodwork involved in construction, such as framing, installing sheathing, hanging kitchen cabinets, and installing trusses. In contrast, a woodworker handles more intricate and custom projects, like building custom furniture, installing wainscoting, and creating detailed interior trim and moldings. Based on these definitions, many woodworkers can perform the tasks of a carpenter, but it's always best to discuss your specific project with a professional to ensure they have the necessary skills.

Balusters provide vertical support to make sure your stair railing and/or deck is as sturdy and safe as possible. These spindles help hold up the railing so people walking up or down stairs have something strong to hold onto. They can also act as a unique design element if they’re custom-made to suit a specific style or size requirement.

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.
