"John and his helper were absolutely WONDERFUL! John called me promptly. He listened to what I wanted done, gave me a reasonable quote. He arrived on time with a large covered truck. I directed him where I wanted items in the garage and he put them in place promptly. John is dependable, friendly, and professional. I happily recommend him. He is a 5 Star provided! I definitely would utilize his services again."

"We had somebody kitchen cabinets picked up. They left our property very clean. They were even able to take a couple other items for a small additional fee. We would use this company again and would recommend them to family and friends."

"My mother had been in her 2000 square-foot apartment for 30 years when, at the age of 100, suddenly became ill and could no longer live on her own. We disposed of much of the furniture but, after so many years, there was a lot of junk and broken stuff, and trash, that was no use to anyone. We also had a large, heavy adjustable bed and a sofa that would not fit on the elevator (the apartment was on the 3rd floor). They emptied EVERYTHING out. They managed to remove the too-large pieces by heaving them over the balcony into their truck 3 floors below. (We have no idea how the furniture originally got INTO the place.) They were clearly very experienced and hit the truck bed with the furniture dead on both times."

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

There are many maintenance and repair issues that lead to a malfunctioning garbage disposal. Regular clogs place wear and tear on the motors, leading to an eventual shutdown. Electrical issues at the breaker, wall outlet, or disposal itself can fry the unit. The most common cause is simply a worn-down motor. These motors can only handle so much use before powering down for good.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

Garbage disposals can be considered bad for the environment due to their electricity usage, but good for the environment because they reduce the food waste sent to landfills. If everyone used a garbage disposal, it would tax the wastewater treatment facilities in that region, but if we had to choose one of the options, we’d say they are a net positive on the environment when used correctly.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.
