"Generally, it went well. I was told exactly what they were going to do before they did the work. The first day, I was taken aback at the price of the work, I assumed the original request would not be such an ordeal, so they allowed me time to consider the work and price while they fixed the toilet. I did decide to go ahead with Top Contender, and I am glad I did. They opened up the wall opposite the faucet, shower head, etc, and found rotten wood, which they replaced, cut away old pipes that were causing electrolysis, reinforced the pipes with staples(not sure of the technical terms), and patched up their work after replacing the shower head, faucet and spout. They were thorough. I had to add additional work to the kitchen faucet problem after cleaning under the sink and notice a crack on the pipe and ask if they would replace it after they fixed the faucet. The issue with the faucet was that it looked like it should have been stuck in the wall a lot further. I wanted to add tile on the wall behind the sink and the faucet stuck out of the wall. The exposed section was covered nicely and I am able to slide the piece, install the tile, and slide the piece back to the wall - problem solved. They did remove the plumbing underneath the sink with new, ABS p-trap assembly. Before they worked in the bathroom, they papered the floor from the front door through the bathroom, used any parts I had on hand, and aired out the bathroom during the entire time. They did clean up, better than most.. not perfect (but I would only notice that).."

"The whole process was very smooth. They came out and spent a couple of hours assessing the problems...turns out we had several. The water heater burner had failed and was under warranty. But they also discovered our pressure regulator had failed, our gate valve was frozen, and we had a pipe leaking in the wall! They found the necessary part for the warranty repair and drove 50 miles each way to get it rather than make us wait 1-2 days for for the part to be shipped. They stayed until all the problems were resolved which was greatly appreciated! (My wife and three daughters were not relishing cold showers!)"

I called first thing in morning and within an hour, I had a knock on my door. My technician was Joshua Williams. He was very professional, friendly, and extremely thorough. "Using MasterServ is a perfect example of the pros and cons of using a big company. They were able to offer a lower price (by several hundred dollars) than other estimates I received because they specialize in volume (and not necessarily quality). The estimator who came was extremely pleasant and professional, however, internal communication in this company is a disaster. Therefore, small details like getting a new shower valve installed and installign new shower heads were initially overlooked by the installers because this wasn't communicated between the estimator and the crew. I never met the so-called project manager, who should have been there the first day to make sure everyone was on the same page about what was to be done. It was explained to me by the estimator that it would be a two-day job (true). The first day, the crew showed up and spent about two hours cutting holes in the walls and prepping the house. The second day they were there from 7 AM until 830 at night, working like crazy to get it done that day -- very stressful. When I saw that they hadn't installed the new shower valve, I got some grief from the crew and the so-called project manager over the phone, and this was eventually rectified with me paying an extra $200 to have the crew come back for an hour or so to install. When the job was complete they had disconnected and capped some old galvanized pipes, but with the new water pressure they blew out a couple weeks later (because they make their money by moving fast, quality and client communication suffer!). The guy they sent to do the drywall patching was a total incompetent. He showed up a couple days after the plumbing work was done started work and left mid-day saying he'd be back the next day to finish, though he never did return. I called the so-called project manager who was surprised to hear that the job wasn't done and it took a few more days for them to schedule a new guy to come out who had to re-do everything because the first guy was incompetent. In the final analysis, this company was the cheapest alternative, but there were a lot of headaches -- stay on top of them and make sure they do the work correctly!"
