"Reuben and his crew did an outstanding job on restaining our decks and we were so happy with their work we then hired them to paint our house. They do excellent highly detailed work, are very conscientious and courteous. Highly recommended!"

"Steve did a great job on our house, and was as careful as he could be around the planted areas next to the house. His bid was not the lowest, but he quoted better quality paint (as rated by Consumer Reports) and more layers of work -- power-washing with TSP, then a primer coat using Kilz, then two coats of paint. He and his crew were pleasant and neat. It was worth the "extra" (which may not really be any extra amount when considering the additional time and materials involved)."

"Had a very good experience with this company. They were fast, respectful, took care to clean up and return landscaping and decor to normal after they finished, and the paint job turned out great. They were very professional and nice to deal with. I would recommend them and would also hire again."

"This company was fabulous! Bill, the owner, was upfront about the cost and possible additions. He stayed in contact with me during the entire job. The work done was exceptional going above and beyond with issues found as work progressed. Workers were always on time, professional and friendly. They are returning to do additional work when the rain stops. We need some dry days."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Exterior paints contain more volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, making them dangerous when used indoors. Without the free ventilation of the great outdoors, it can take longer for the fumes to dissipate than interior paint. While you may notice the smell lessening more quickly, you should be wary of paint fumes inside for 48 to 72 hours after it dries.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

Essential tools include brushes or rollers, drop cloths, sandpaper or power sanders, and appropriate cleaning supplies. Quality materials ensure long-lasting results.

Rags used with oil-based stains are highly flammable and can spontaneously combust in the right conditions. To reduce the fire risk, throw them in a metal container after use and add rocks on top to secure them. Add an inch of water and seal the container. Take the rags in the container to a hazardous waste factory as soon as possible.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.
