"Great. Initially I was going to just get blinds cut at home depot and install it myself. Then I was too busy and decided I was going to hire Chris to install the blinds I got. However, he quoted me a price that was a bit more expensive than Home Depot, but it was custom cut blinds (so that the length also fit the windows) and the price was not by much more. It was definitely more competitive than the 4 other contractors I got quotes from. The only downside was I was told it would be about 2 weeks and it took 4 weeks for the blinds to come in. At the end of the day, it was a minor inconvenience for me. I still got a great price, and when the blinds did come in, Chris got one of his workers to come in on a weekend morning (the guy told me he was working OT) to accommodate my busy schedule. Once he unpacked all the blinds, it was extremely efficient and the installer was very professional. So, I really have no complaints. The blinds were beautiful and did fit perfectly as guaranteed. Chris originally came by to measure my windows at my request (I initially measured them and sent it to him for a quote) just to make sure. He was great and easy to work with. I would recommend giving Chris a call. I'm sure you will be happy with your experience. Thanks Chris!"

"I hired Sierra Sunscreens to build an insulated patio cover with a ceiling fan and replace our sliding screen door.  The salesman (Roy) gave a 3-4 week window in the start date, citing variations of time needed to obtain a permit.  He let us know when they got the permit, which was pretty quick, but said larger jobs were taking priority over ours.  After a few weeks, he came out to put in the screen door - which looked much better and worked great.  After a few more weeks, we were told that all manufacturers of the vinyl patio cover material were out of stock...throughout the state.  We were nearing the end of our contracted installation window, about 7 or 8 weeks, when we finally got an install date.
The day of the install, nobody showed up when they were supposed to.  Several hours later, I got a phone call.  They said the order came in without a fan beam and they would have to push the install even further out.  I asked them to install it per the contract or refund my deposit.  I already had a special order outdoor fan I couldn't return.  After several exchanges with them, they said they would take a fan beam from another job and get it done.
The installer, Igor, came out later and got started.  It took two days.  When he was done, he blew all the metal shavings and screws off the patio into our grass where our dog and toddler play.  He also used our grass to wipe the caulk off his hands.
It didn't meet code, so I had to call again...and try to get someone out to make the necessary changes.  They did send someone out and it passed the second time.
After a few months, we noticed the gutter leaking... but at that time I was so fed up with the company that it wasn't worth calling them.

"It is a waste of money. The great majority of people are not going to find any value out of the service. If you need design consultation, you need a full service consultation. If you already have knowledge and experience, and you just need to get a few ideas, then you don't need to pay for that. You can just get a magazine or a book since you already have the knowledge of basic designs in your head or a little bit of experience. To have someone call you and give you information over the phone, you are not getting the personal service that you need. You may as well take the money $49 and apply it to something else like getting someone else to come out and give you the service that you need. Because, you are not getting much, you are not getting anything at all. They are going to have you do the work. After talking to them and I was talking to other home designers, I found out that that was a waste of time and waste of money. I gave them a C because they didn't fail at what they do but they don't offer any value for what they do. There's not much value to it. The cost was fair. They didn't do a terrible job and the cost isn't terrible, it was only $49. It just has a very low value. For responsiveness I gave them a B because they will answer your phone and answer your emails."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

Casement windows can either be left or right opening, and every window manufacturer makes both so that you can choose which works best for your space. In many cases, you’ll want one left-opening and one right-opening casement window to sit on either side of a picture window or to act as the side panels in a bay window. Just remember that the direction is described from the curb. An FCL (from the curb left) hinges out to the left if you’re looking at the exterior of your home, and an FCR (from the curb right) hinges out to the right.

The average lifespan for a casement window is around 20 years, but some higher-end casement windows with more durable frame materials can last up to around 40 years before you need to replace them. You’ll need to carry out routine maintenance and window cleaning—and, on occasion, casement window restoration—to extend the lifespan of your casement windows. But they tend to wear more slowly than windows with sliding sashes because the weatherstripping sees minimal friction.

Casement window types differ from standard windows in that they have a hinge on the side or the top of the window so that it can open inwards or outwards. If your casement windows open upward, they usually have a crank to operate them. Casement windows with side hinges typically operate like a door, opening and closing without a crank.

High winds can be harmful to casement windows and all types of windows. Because casement windows can swing outward, high winds could slam the window against the side of the house, bend the hinges, or even rip the window off of the hinges. If you hear some strong gusts outside, it’s best to pull the casement windows shut until it all blows over.

Picture windows are still in style, even though they are one of the oldest types of windows. Other windows, like single- or double-hung windows and casement windows, have increased in popularity because they can open up for fresh air. However, homeowners still love the way a picture window can frame their lush outdoor garden or other pleasant neighborhood views.
