"Originally hired last week to replace outdoorGFCI plug and fix kitchen plugs that stopped working. At that time I also asked Bill to assess why our Gable Vent fan didn't work. The motor was frozen and fan needed to be replaced. Was quoted a fair price. The electrician, Bill, returned today and replaced old fan with new fan that I purchased. I am very happy with Bill's attention to detail, to ensure my electrical problems were resolved. Will use this company again for any future electrical needs."

"Walt is a very experienced professional! When he read that my project involved problems with a dead circuit in my outdoor patio lighting, he immediately suspected it might involve an outdoor circuit breaker. He realized that he did not have a replacement on his truck, so he took the time to stop and buy one BEFORE he came to my house. Sure enough, he was correct and the part that he bought saved the day and was the key to a successful project. In addition, he drew my attention to several other areas that were also not up to standard and fixed them all before they could give me trouble....all on the same very fair service charge! His assistant, Tim. was also very knowledgeable and reset all my electrical timers for me at no extra charge. I would definitely use Walt for any future electrical work, and recommend him highly! Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.
