"I contacted John because I wanted to refinish a floor that I previously finished with an epoxy paint and knew that I needed a professional to do the job right. (Before I spoke to John, I spoke to a local painter who told me that all I needed to do is wash the floor really well and then apply another coat of epoxy from Home Depot - which didn't make sense since the original finish was 10 years old and would not adhere to a new epoxy - certainly not with just a simple wash). John was really clear about what needed to be done to redo the floor correctly, offered to complete the entire job in one day, and proposed a really fair price with a no hassle contract. I had planned to research other vendors, but decided to move forward with John because it was clear that he was going to do the job right, the first time. I'm happy to report that he and his team at CA resurfacing exceeded all expectations. The crew arrived exactly on time and did not waste time getting to work. I was late in moving some items and his crew didn't skip a beat to help with a few last minute items. Before I knew it, they we're grinding down the floor to remove the old epoxy in prep for the new epoxy. They have professional equipment that accomplishes the task quickly and cleanly (they have a vacuum system that minimizes dust). Within a few hours, the floors were prepped, painted, and dusted with flakes. They took a short break to allow the paint and flakes to set before scraping, blowing, and vacuuming away the excess flakes (again, very quick and very clean). Before I knew it, they were finishing off the floor with a clear top coat to complete the job and head home. The floor looks absolutely amazing and they left the rest of the driveway and garage just as clean or cleaner than when they arrived. I would highly recommend John and his crew at CA Resurfacing to anyone that wants a high quality result for a fair price. I wouldn't be surprised if John gets a few phone calls from several folks on my street who now admire my garage floors!"

Epoxy Flooring questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can seal an old concrete floor as long as you remove stains and repair damage before sealing. Remove everything from the garage and clear the floor throughout with a concrete cleaner and power washing. Fill in cracks larger than 1/8 of an inch wide and remove all grease and rust stains before sealing. Make sure your concrete is fully dried before applying sealer.

If your garage floor is heavily soiled or stained, then it’s a good idea to powerwash it with a concrete cleaner before sealing. This process will remove dirt and debris to help the new sealer bond to the concrete properly, and it will also improve the look of your sealed garage floor. After power washing your floor, make sure you let the concrete dry completely before applying sealant, usually for 24 to 48 hours.

Evenly wetting a wood floor before applying a stain is called water popping. It raises the grain and opens the wood’s pores to absorb more stain. When done properly, it can make the stain look darker and deeper. However, it’s important to evenly wet the floor and let it dry before applying the stain.

It depends on the type of sealer. Some sealers can dry in as little as 4 hours, but many can take up to 48 hours to fully cure. To play it safe, don’t drive on your driveway for two days after sealing.

Mix the resurfacer into a sticky mixture. The consistency should look like mashed potatoes. Use a squeegee to push the resurfacer across the pitted area and smoothen the surface with a cement trowel flush. Make sure you protect any expansion joints with a weather strip. Alternatively, cut out any resurfacer that touched the joint once the mixture begins to harden.
