"Very polite, professional interactions... I had a new bathroom door installed, originally just wanting it reversed, but agreed to buy a new door, and not just the door, but the whole frame too, which at the time, was not aware of until the day of work. So my door trim, both sides had to be removed, and this, some of the trim broke in pieces. I was not made aware of broken pieces, until after all work was done, after they left, as they were nailed back around my brand new door and frame! I wish I had been made aware of this and what options were offered so it would look as good as before he started, not worse. Should have just had new trim as well, to give the polished professional look anyway. The caulking around the door trim on both sides was inconsistent and sloppy and messy and looked rushed. I had to clean up a lot of it. I also had grab bars installed for my disabled son, those were fine except for one of the shower bars. It was placed to close to the corner that the face plate is not flush and won't lock into place like the others. Nothing I can really do, as I do not want a bunch of holes in my shower. I gave an opportunity for them to fix the door trim and they were willing, however, they wanted to charge labor or just fix only the broken piece.. I was willing to buy the new trim for entire door (except the broken one) and felt they should have been willing to cover their own labor as I should not have had to have them out again in the first place. They could have taken they hour or whatever to replace the trim and do it right, looking professional, and with a happy customer. I took a chance using a handyman without a license, which I felt was overpriced, but paid it as I needed things done for my disabled son. I never have used Angi list before, so I felt that if they were on the list, it would be professional and good quality work no matter what. Again, Professional and prompt, a good beginning to a young man trying to start a business, but still some things to learn about the quality. I say for the record, the handyman I hired, brought a side kick who mainly worked the door, and it was him that did the sloppy work and broke the trim. Also, a side note, language barriers are hard to deal with as you don't know all that is being said? The sidekick was not fluent in English and they spoke the whole time in Spanish, my husband and I both heard 2 separate time the words "Mickey mouse.. That's never a good thing when someone is working on your house. I have referenced myself in times past, ;Mickey mouse work It is not flattering."

"I hired this company to install new sod on my property they were really nice and professional and explained all the questions I had for the after care, I also contacted them a couple days after installation due to some corners on the patches turning dark or drying out and explain that since it?s real grass I had to give it a couple days or weeks to allow it to root well and new grass will grow. It?s been almost a month and my lawn looks great"

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

There are a few advantages to hiring a handyperson as a contractor, namely that they will likely charge less for their services since they don’t have as much overhead. A handyperson might also have more flexibility and be more involved in your specific home project, so you can communicate with one person instead of a subcontractor team.

While handypeople do not need to be licensed in many places, you should only hire insured pros for any home improvement work. Your handyperson should have active liability coverage that protects them and you in the case of an error or accident. Furthermore, if they have employees on your property, they should also have workers’ compensation insurance. If you hire an individual or a company that is not insured and they damage your property, have an accident while on the job, or become injured on your property without insurance, you can be held financially liable.

Handypeople usually don’t hold trade licenses, so they typically aren’t qualified to tackle projects involving installing or making alterations to plumbing or electrical lines. Below are some jobs that a handyperson usually won’t be able to complete:

  • Installing plumbing for a new kitchen or bathroom

  • Replacing plumbing pipes

  • Installing or repairing septic systems

  • Running new electrical wiring

  • Installing a subpanel

You can tackle hanging Christmas lights yourself with the right tools, accessories, and a trusted friend or neighbor. You’ll need to purchase a ladder ($100 to $300), clips ($10 to $20), hooks ($10 to $15), and lights ($25 to $100 per string).

Otherwise, you should hire a trusted holiday light installer near you. You’ll pay an average price of $200 to $650, but you’ll have peace of mind knowing that the job is done correctly and safely.

Reviewing your contract for termination terms is best when ending a relationship with a contractor. If there is nothing in the contract or you had a verbal agreement, communicate your decision in writing, citing specific reasons. Afterward, pay for the completed work per your original agreement. Remember you want a record of all correspondence in case you need a lawyer later to settle disputes.
