"Reginald was awesome. He was very polite and considerate of my time. He arrived at the scheduled time and got right to work. He was also very clean. He laid down tarps so there was no mess left behind. I will be calling him back to install my new pellet stove."

"I will start out saying, before now...this was our go to store for anything fireplace related. The last 25yrs or so we have bought atleast 5 stoves from them cause we have rentals that we installed pellet stoves in..These were our go to guys. We didnt even shop around..This store was our fireplace store even though they are 70 miles from us..didnt matter.. they were our go to store. They were always very prompt, reasonable and polite...However that was when the older gentleman (maybe dad??) ran the place and did the service. Now.. the young man that came to our house this last Friday, basically treated us like we were a royal pain in his a***. He changed the original appt to a different day. When he did get there he was an hour late. He diagnosed our stove... and "fixed" it..but realized the blower motor was out and he didnt have one on his truck. We bought this stove from them.. how does he not have parts to fix it on his truck? He drove 70 miles for this service call he should have the parts to build a new stove on his big F450. He told my husband he would try to get back on Monday to finish the job and gave us a $450 bill, (for 1 hour work) for service and travel. So Monday...when he didnt show... I called and the lady had him call me back and his attitude was horrible. Told my hubbs he didnt say he was coming back...so why would you leave a job open for over a week and not plan to come back and finish it? so that meant another travel fee..that big F450, that doesnt have all the parts they need, takes a lot of Diesel money! He sat on the phone for over 10 minutes arguing with us and telling us he was too busy to come back and finish the job til the next week. He also told us it was our fault cause we didnt call him sooner.. maybe so.. but his attitude saying it and his tone was very disrespectful. I will be going into Bakersfield today looking for a different repair man and from now on will be staying in town to shop for our new pellet stoves!"

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

It’s not normal for a chimney to leak even a little bit during heavy rain. A chimney in good condition will keep rain from seeping into the chimney or house, so if you notice a small leak during a rainstorm, it’s time to call a pro for inspection. There could be damage to the flashing, chimney crown, or flue liner.

Generally, to install roof flashing, you shouldn't use screws. Rather, it's best to use either roofing cement or nails. For the best results, match your nail type with the flashing materials. If you have aluminum flashing, use aluminum nails, and so on. You can use the same nails for your asphalt shingles and flashing.

Moss grows in dark areas of roofs, including in corners and gutters. If left alone, it can grow under roofing and cause permanent damage. Here’s how to remove moss from metal roofs

  • Soak the moss to soften it

  • Scrub it away with a soft-bristled brush, or pick it off with your hands (be sure to wear gloves)

  • Use a moss remover that’s compatible with metal roofing, following the manufacturer’s directions

  • Remove dead moss and rinse the roof thoroughly

  • Prevent future moss growth by trimming branches, cleaning gutters, and attaching zinc strips to moss-prone areas

Metal roofing gets hot when it’s exposed to direct sunlight, but aluminum is naturally reflective and can actually help keep your home cooler in hotter, sunnier climates. The solar reflectance of aluminum is significantly higher than that of asphalt shingles and clay tile, so a metal roof will reduce solar heat gain in your home.

There are advantages and disadvantages to metal roofs in cold climates. Metal roofing stands up extremely well to harsh winters as long as it is properly insulated. Snow and ice slide right off residential metal roofs, preventing the formation of ice dams; but because of this, they may require snow guards, which prevent the ice and snow that slide off a roof from causing a sort of "mini avalanche" that can damage property and people below.
