"SWS tinted the windows on both of our current cars. The second one was done 3 years ago, and what impressed me the most was how Virgil handled a problem that came up 3 years later: 5 stars across the board for Superior Window Solutions (SWS)! They have competitive prices, install quality window films, and most importantly, they stand behind their work and take care of their customers after the sale. In my case…long after the sale. In 2013 we decided to tint the windows on my wife’s new Civic, we chose SWS. Virgil Ryan, the owner, had promptly returned my phone calls and had taken the time to answer all of my questions. Their pricing was competitive, scheduling was easy, and the installation was first-rate; a great experience. In 2015 SWS tinted the windows on my new Lexus and I had the same great experience. As I had with the Civic, I chose a darker tint for the 3 rear windows, and a lighter shade for the 2 in front. Almost three years had gone by when I recently noticed that an edge of the tint on the driver’s window of the Lexus had come loose. I called Virgil, and his response was simple and direct; “We’ll take care of it.” When I brought my car in, Virgil and his installer Jose determined that there was a flaw in the film itself. When they pulled some new film from their stock they noticed that the original tint had also darkened considerably, so the new film for the driver’s window was not going to match the existing film on the front passenger side. Virgil solved that problem quickly, saying “We’ll replace the tint on both front windows”. For a successful tint job, an installer needs to have a great deal of patience and attention to detail, and Jose took great care to ensure that everything was perfect in replacing the tinting on both windows. Too many companies today seem to have lost sight of the fact that if you don’t take care of your customers, your chance for a customer’s repeat business is minimal. However, if you do take care of them, they will come back. It’s that simple. Virgil’s proactive approach to SWS’s customer service, and his ability to see things from the customer's perspective has made me a customer for life, and I heartily recommend his company. PS: An insider tip. As someone who ran customer service programs for many years, my best advice for consumers seeking service, especially for something that is technically “out of warranty” is to first just simply ask nicely if anything can be done. Business owners and their employees are people too, and if you treat them the way you would like to be treated, you never know what kind of good things may happen. Conversely, if from the beginning you go in making threats and over-the-top demands, you seriously reduce your chances of getting any kind of satisfaction."

"I was looking for a professional window tinting company for a a store front window replacement project I was doing for a client and Extreme Window Tinting was highly recommended to me by a fellow contractor. The owner Shawn met with me personally at the site and was highly professional. He explained and demonstrated to us how the window tinting reduces the heat transfer from outside to inside and the different types of tinting they offer . He also let us know about the window shades they install and continued to show us the shades and the color options for that as well. We hired them to do the windows and the window shades. The job was done in one day and we’re able to do it with in the scheduled time frame. His team was very professional and organised. I would highly recommend hiring them for your window tinting and roller shade needs."

Window Tinting questions, answered by experts

Replacing a window frame will improve your home’s energy efficiency if the old frame is cracked or damaged in a way that allows unconditioned air from the outside into your living space or if you upgrade to a more energy-efficient window frame material. Aluminum is the least energy-efficient window frame material, followed by vinyl and wood. Fiberglass and composite frames are the most energy-efficient.

The average cost for home window tinting is around $600, with most homeowners paying between $150 and $1,600. Costs can also be calculated per square foot, typically ranging from $2 to $100, or per window at around $75 each. For example, tinting one or two windows might cost between $200 and $350, while a larger project of 13 to 15 windows could range from $4,124 to $4,747.

Several factors influence the total project cost, with the number and size of the windows being the most significant. Other key factors include the type, shade, and quality of the tint film, as well as labor costs. Additional treatments, such as low-emissivity (low-E) coatings, can also increase material costs.

Window tinting offers several benefits, such as making your home more energy-efficient by blocking harsh sunlight, protecting furniture from fading, and increasing privacy. For this reason, many homeowners choose to tint only the windows in specific areas where direct sunlight and privacy are primary concerns.

A lace curtain may block some of the biggest insects from entering while still allowing a breeze to get through. If your concern is privacy, then curtains and blinds will provide better privacy than window screens; for UV protection, you can choose specialty windows or UV-blocking film. And if you just want an inexpensive, temporary solution, there are adhesive or magnetic screen panels you can install for an hour, a day, or a season.

Visibility through tinted house windows or privacy film depends on the lighting. During the day, the tint or film typically prevents people from seeing inside. However, at night, if you have lights on inside your home, the interior will be brighter than the outside, which allows people to see in. You can choose from various shades of privacy film, from lighter to darker, to optimize the level of privacy you want.

Applying window security film yourself is possible, but we don’t recommend it. This task is simple in theory, but getting the product to sit on your windows evenly and without bubbles underneath is challenging for DIYers who lack the necessary experience and tools. You might save money on labor by applying it yourself, but you might also end up with a film that doesn’t look appealing, prompting you to start over and spend the money on a professional installation anyway. Plus, most window film manufacturers will void your warranty if you install the product yourself.
