About Us Our family-owned and operated business began in 1979 in a modest 40 foot building on Nord Avenue with a very small inventory of retail products. The owners, David and Dianna Davis, are Chico natives. Both of them attended Chico schools, have raised their family here, and are committed to the community. David is a highly skilled locksmith and is nationally known in the locksmithing field as a safe "cracker". He has participated in numerous competitions and has always ranked within the top three safe crackers nationwide. Dianna is also known as a highly skilled professional and has been instrumental in the growth of the company. In addition to being heavily involved in the day to day operations, David and Dianna also employee two full time locksmiths. ASSOCIATION Safe & Vault Technology Association

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Keyless locks are often considered safer since they’re protected by passcodes instead of a physical key, making it harder to be picked. However, they are not infallible. And like all electronic devices, outdated models are more prone to problems and safety concerns. If you’ve experienced multiple lockouts in the past year, or your lock is responding slower than usual after you key in the passcode, it might be time to upgrade to a newer one. Even if your lock is working fine, you should still change your access code at least twice a year.

It’s possible, but depends on the design of your lock. Some door locks that lack a keyhole do boast a small hole on the exterior handle or knob. This hole’s primary function is to allow water to drain out of the lock, in addition to giving homeowners an easy spot to insert lubrication. However, you can typically use a paperclip in this pinhole to unlock the door by manipulating the mechanism inside.

Standard residential deadbolt locks come with a steel bolt that locks your door into place using a key (or keypad) on one side and a thumb turn on the other. When you lock it, the bolt slides into a strike plate on your door jamb to secure your door shut.

Yes, you should always change your locks after buying a house. Do so as soon as possible after you move in. Otherwise, you won’t know who has working keys to the property, whether they’re spare keys or otherwise. If an intruder gains access to your house with a key, it may not be covered under your homeowners insurance.

Yes, it’s possible a burglar can get through a deadbolt. Some types of deadbolts are harder for an intruder to get through, though. For example, a single-cylinder lock only requires breaking a window nearby and simply turning it. While other locks, such as a double-cylinder lock, may offer greater protection and make it harder for an intruder, no deadbolt is 100 percent effective.
