"We were totally pleased with John’s work and expertise. During our home remodel we took two bathrooms back to stud walls and reconfigured the showers and bath. Our description of John’s work in setting the tile is nothing short of artistry! John also laid ceramic floor tiles throughout the house. He was neat and efficient, and we could not be more pleased with the final product."

"Mike and Ramon were great! They were punctual, showed up when they say they will show up. The porcelain tile install was done professionally. My kitchen looks great. They put in 3 transition strips and they were seamless and were done nicely. Before leaving Mike did a final check of every corners making sure the baseboard and transition strips were done correctly. They cleaned up really good too. I highly recommend them."

"Gomez Tile Design is absolutely the best for installing tile. I used to flip properties and thus I have extensive experience working with contractors. I can tell you that with Gomez Tile Design, Samuel and Abel, were always on time, super conscientious, discarded all the waste and left the job super clean. In addition, their workmanship is superior, from the way they layout the tile to the grout lines. I totally recommend them if you are looking for perfection."

"Damon is an extremely talented tile installer. He is honest, hard working, conscientious and meticulous about his work. We built our home over 20 years ago, so we have worked with numerous subcontractors and constructions workers in the past. Damon is a true professional and we would highly recommend his service to others. You can have confidence in his work and his word! The final product was absolutely stunning thanks to Damon's skills and attention to detail. When we are ready for our next tile job, Damon will be the first professional we call."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

Many homeowners have successfully retiled a bathroom themselves. It can be a challenging but rewarding process, but it’s best for someone who already has at least intermediate DIY skills.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.
