"THEY CALLED ME AT THE END OF JUNE AND I TOLD THEM I HAD OTHER THINGS GOING ON AND ASKED THEM TO CALL BACK IN SEPT. THEY DID AND CAME OUT TO DO A BID. I HAD 2 OTHER BIDS $5900 AND $5500. THEY CAME IN AT $5500 ALSO. KEN ASKED WHAT HE COULD DO TO GET MY BUSINESS AND OFFERED TO INCLUDE THE FRONT SIDEWALK (WHICH WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY IF THE 3 BIDS) TO THE HOUSE, CONDUITS UNDER THE DRIVEWAY AND SIDEWALK FOR WATER AND POWER, RAN MY 2 DOWNSPOUTS FROM IN FRONT OF HOUSE TO THE LAWN AREA. IT DIDN'T TAKE ME LONG TO SAY YES. THEY WERE ONLY HERE 1 DAY WITHIN THE TIME SPECIFIED, WORKERS WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL. THEY ARE OUT OF ROSEVILLE CALIFORNIA, A 2 HOUR DRIVE. BY THE WAY WHEN HE CAME BACK TO HAVE ME SIGN THE CONTRACT, HE HAD LOWERED THE PRICE TO $5100. PLUS NO MONEY UP FRONT. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS VERY SATISFIED. I GAVE HIM 2 REFERRALS AND WILL HAVE MORE."

"Honest, good work at a fair price. Options were presented with pros/cons and pricing, allowing us to make an educated decision. The installation team was on time, very meticulous and friendly. They worked fast and clean, removing all debris from the property, daily. All work was inspected and tested by the owner of the company upon completion. We are beyond happy with the product and installation. It is the first time in 11 years that we have garage doors that actually seal to the floor!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible to pave over an existing driveway, but whether it's the right choice depends on several factors. If the underlying structure of your current driveway is still strong, concrete or asphalt resurfacing can be a cost-effective way to prolong its life. However, if your driveway has significant issues like potholes, deep cracks, or other inconsistencies, it is best to remove the old driveway and start from scratch. Key factors to consider include the current driveway's condition, the compatibility of the new material, the added thickness and height, and the necessary surface preparation.

Costs range from $3 to $7 per square foot, depending on the area size and project scope.

Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.
