"Well my unit was costing us big time on the electric bill. I was put in contact with Mike. He asked me the issue, then said we can be on our way now. A tall man shows up i think his name was Brian, He worked on my unit for 20 min . Then said replace filter dryer recover refrigerate to weight it out to see if its low. he said system acted like low on refrigerant but he said he thought it had been over charged by last tech, serviced last year. Then he found a dirty supply coil or evap coil i think he said. My contactor was out dated for compressor and caps we over 5% out of range. 1350 he charged me. he worked on it 4 hours when he was done it worked better then when i bought the house 10 years ago. I thought man that is kind of pricy but when in saw results i paid happily. great guys who you can trust. Previous company over charged my unit by 2 pounds of r22 cost me money i did not need to spend and did not work."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

For the most part, you should leave your AC fan in “auto” mode so that it only runs during a heating or cooling cycle. Keeping it in this position uses less energy, which equals lower utility bills. However, there are some situations where it’s better to leave your AC fan on, including if you have allergies or there are lots of people in your home.

The higher the BTU rating an air conditioner has, the more effective it can be at cooling your space. It will cool off your room faster in the short term. However, over the long term, if the unit has too many BTUs for the space, it can wear down the unit faster and shorten its life span.

Yes, you should turn off your AC if it’s leaking. Turning off the system prevents more condensation from leaking and reduces strain on the unit if a damaged internal component or lack of refrigerant is the cause. While this may temporarily stop the leak, water can continue to drip from a thawing coil even after the system is off. As soon as you notice a leak, turn off the unit and investigate the source or call a professional for an inspection.

Yes. Return air vents are responsible for gathering and pulling in the warmer air. Once they draw it in, your system conditions the air by removing the warmer molecules from it, allowing your air conditioner to dispense the cooler air back into your home. Not only does this create a more comfortable environment for you, but it also keeps your air conditioner from overworking, resulting in lower energy bills.

ACs don't run on water. They're not connected to drain pipes or any part of your plumbing system. However, they need refrigerant to run. Refrigerant is a gas or liquid that has a low boiling point and absorbs the heat in your home. ACs need this in order to be functional and cool your home. If you suspect your AC is low on refrigerant, you need to contact a licensed HVAC professional. Refrigerant is a dangerous chemical that requires specialized training and permits to work with.
