"The outdoor kitchen project had been on our list for years, but we wanted it done right. Way To Go Builders, under Miki's supervision, poured a concrete base, installed paver surfacing, and faced the kitchen island with natural stone veneer. The attention to detail - from the joint alignment to the gas line integration - was remarkable. The finished space fits the architecture perfectly and gives us a true entertaining area, not just a patio."

Customers say: True professional

"I recently hired Evolution Contracting for baseboard work in my home, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. Ulisses was incredibly quick and attentive to respond from the start. Not only was the craftsmanship excellent, but he is also very personable and easy to approach. It’s a relief to find someone who does great work and is easy to communicate with. I’m very happy with the job he did and will definitely be using him again for future projects!"

"Gabe and his team are great! I definitely will hire them again. Quality of work is outstanding. He did a stacked crown molding that gave our home a whole new look and probably added about 30k in value to the home."

"The work, repair of exterior wood trim and application of Cool Wall coating to the entire structure, was done well. There was a kerfuffle at the start due to some mis-communications. However, that was solved and the job proceeded to completion seemlessly. I had contacts within H2R who were prompt and forthcoming with any questions that came up with regard to timing and completion of the tasks involved. Project manager Alejandro Sanchez, and Quality Control Representative Joshua Cristiano, kept me informed of prgress of the job. They both made on site visits with me to review the work, and make sure the job was completed as promised. Their involvement was critical to my satisfaction with the job. The workmanship of the H2R team was professional, and expert. I am very satisfied and pleased with the end product. Stay in communication with the priject msnager, and other support staff and you will be as pleased with the results as I am. The job was excellent."

"George and his wife are amazing. We hired them for 3 separate projects. Cabinetry in the master closet, kitchen addition and floating shelves. George's communication is fantastic. He got back to us with design plans very fast. His responses via text and phone calls were quick. The quality of the work is amazing! He keeps his word on timelines. We highly recommend him."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Yes, carpenters can fix squeaky floors. They have the expertise to identify the source of the squeak, whether it’s loose floorboards, subfloor issues, or joist problems. These experts also have the right tools and hands-on knowledge to secure the flooring and eliminate the noise, ensuring a long-lasting solution.

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.
