They had to first remove the old concrete and rebar, spread sand evenly, install the pavers, and put sand in the cracks. Everything looked beautiful when they finished and they cleaned up the area very well. Mario is a very skilled craftsman who oversees the work and also does some of it himself. Whether a concrete walkway or sidewalk needs rebar depends on how it will be used. Walkways and sidewalks meant for light foot traffic don’t need rebar, and you can use wire mesh instead. But concrete surfaces that will see heavy machinery will likely need it.

You should place a layer of thick landscaping fabric directly over the concrete slab and then a thin layer of leveling sand over that to protect the pavers from moisture. For border pavers, you should plan on locking them in place with polyurethane adhesive. This will prevent them from shifting under foot traffic.

Some patios will cause your property taxes to increase, while others will not. A good rule of thumb is that if your patio requires a permit, your taxes will increase. That’s because permits are necessary for “permanent” land improvements, and your taxes are based partially on improvements. Something like a concrete patio that’s considered permanent will bump up your property taxes, while a “temporary” paver patio or flagstone patio will not negatively affect your taxes.
