"Todd was awesome. He responded the following day and was able to do a temporary repair until we can have the installing contractor return under warranty to make a complete repair. Todd identified a larger issue with the gutters which we would not have know about had Todd been less knowledgeable about gutter installation. He also was able to show us that the gutters were clear of debris and not clogged. He was very professional, extremely knowledgeable, efficient, reasonably priced, helpful, and friendly. We will be using him again and highly recommend him."

An additional layer of shingles increases the risk of various kinds of damage, and insurers typically won’t pay claims on a roof with an overlay. Adding a layer of shingles may even jeopardize your insurance coverage entirely, so check your policy to ensure you stay within coverage guidelines. 

Metal roofs do not technically require a drip edge if the roof overhangs at least one inch, because the roof's slant will cause water to flow away from the structure. But a drip edge would be an added level of protection for a metal roof to help keep moisture issues at bay.

The most obvious and severe sign of a roof leak is the presence of wet spots on your ceilings, specifically on the top floor of your home. You can also identify a roof leak from your attic if you see sagging insulation or if you notice mold growth or water stains on the rafters or the underside of the roof deck. From the street, look for cracked or missing shingles, moss growth, and shingles that are curling upward, all of which can suggest a leak.

You can use silicone caulk around the upper lip of your roof vent boot to seal it temporarily, or you can slide a repair sleeve over the roof vent and old vent boot to stop air and water leaks temporarily. However, these aren’t permanent solutions, so you should always hire a professional to come out and replace the roof vent boot for a long-lasting fix and peace of mind.

A new roof will last anywhere from 15 to 150 years, depending on the type of roof you install. Asphalt shingle roofs have the shortest lifespan of 15 to 30 years. Metal roofs usually last for 30 to 60 years, but some materials can fall outside of that range. Clay and concrete roofs can last for 50 to 100 years, and slate roofs have the longest lifespan of 60 to 150 years.
