"Great! They arrived May 10th for estimate and took dressers with them. On May 22nd we visited their establishment to zero in on the stain color once the pieces were sanded. They returned it completed on June 1st. These are the dressers my parents purchased over 60 years ago. We were hoping all would come out well. It did. Price was fair. Work quality was excellent. Very happy!"

"After reviewing several specialty rug cleaners in and around Tucson, I found Airloom Rug Washing Company to be local, honest and professional with outstanding results. Their website provided a comprehensive overview of how the rugs are treated and cleaned. I knew I selected the right rug cleaners to be trusted with my 30 year old rug when I visited their company. Paul was kind enough to show me the entire operation from start to finish. My oriental rug required additional cleaning due to years of using a product called carpet fresh. Paul insisted on cleaning the rug with a second wash without additional cost to me. I really appreciated the delivery service too. I would highly recommend Airloom Rug Washing Company."

"Ramon was very courteous and professional. He faxed me an estimate beforehand and charged me the same cost upon completion of the job. He was friendly and on-time, and the job was done exactly as expected. I would recommend him to other people who have furniture repair needs, and I will keep his business card in case I ever need to hire the Furniture Medic again."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

If your couch is damaged, you are not out of options. You might try fixing it on your own, bring in a furniture repair specialist, or opt to get rid of it responsibly. Depending on its condition, you could donate, sell, recycle, or drop it off at a local scrap facility.

The time required to reupholster furniture depends on the item's size, complexity, and condition. The hands-on work can range from 2-3 hours for a simple dining chair to 10 to 20 hours for a large sofa. The total project timeline with a professional, including fabric sourcing and scheduling, typically ranges from one to three weeks.

Several factors can affect the timeline. Antique furniture often takes longer due to the delicate care required. If additional repairs are needed, such as sanding or refinishing wood components, the process will also take more time. A DIY reupholstery project will usually take significantly longer than a professional job.

Yes, many custom builders offer finishing and upholstery options tailored to your style.

Ongoing maintenance of your leather furniture is the only way to prevent it from peeling and cracking. Real leather will peel and crack as it dries out. Leather conditioners are a great way to protect your leather furniture from drying out, and you’ll need to apply it about twice each year. It’s also a good idea to keep abrasive materials away from your leather to prevent cracking and peeling, including belt buckles, shoes, and multi-surface cleaners, especially those that contain alcohol.

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take
