My mom has been an antiques appraiser for nearly 30 years, and I spent numerous childhood Saturdays at country auctions. I made my first auction purchase, a Japanese inlaid wood Scottie dog box, at the age of 12. After college, I obtained a law degree, practiced law, and then became a law professor. My hobby along the way was studying, collecting, and reselling antiques. In 2009, my husband was given a great job opportunity in the Scottsdale area. We decided to take it and I left law teaching to found my appraisal practice. I now specialize in the appraisal of antiques, collectibles, and residential contents as a generalist knowledgeable in ceramics, silver, furniture and fine art. Twenty-something years after my first antiques purchase, I am now happily pursuing my hobby as a full-time career. Since beginning this journey, I have become an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), one of the foremost appraisal credentialing societies in the world. I have taken several courses on appraisal methodology and theory,the identification of antiques, fine art and USPAP (the Uniform Standards for Professional Appraisal Practice). I am accredited in both fine art and antiques and residential contents. While I do not personally appraise fine jewelry, coins, stamps, sports memorabilia or guns, I have experts at my disposal to assist me in these areas if needed.
