Pea gravel and crushed gravel are often used to cover large areas, while flagstone and cobblestone can be found in patios and walkways. If you’re looking to build a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task, and larger boulders work well to indicate boundaries or fill up empty space.

As with anything you do near your foundation, you’ll want to ensure proper drainage when you plant your foundation beds. Your drainage should run downhill from the highest point against your foundation to avoid water intrusion and incurring expensive foundation repair costs.

Hedge plants are available in almost every size, from seedlings to fully mature, six-foot-tall shrubs. Planting smaller plants is much easier and more cost-effective. However, it can take years for the plants to reach maturity and create a full hedge. Garden centers and specialty retailers sometimes offer three to four-foot wide plants that you can simply plant next to each other for an instant full hedge.
