"I wish I could give more than 5 stars! My first child leaving the nest moved from Virginia to PX, started her new job and bought her first home. I flew out to help her move into her home and had a small window of time to get everything moved in and put away so that I could fly back home to VA knowing that she was settled--very important to a mama. She needed several furniture items assembled and a picture hung. I initially selected Tony from HomeAdvisor based on his outstanding ratings and feedback--I was not disappointed! I called him and he was happy to take the work, but explained that he was totally booked two weeks out. I explained my situation, i.e., moving my first child cross country into her new home and wanting everything to be "right" before I left and only having a few days to get everything done. Tony said "Let me figure this out and I'll get you in and get this done for you." And figure it out he did! He rearranged his day to come to my daughter's at 6:00 am in the morning, assembled a TV stand, coffee table and wine bar as well as hung a large picture on her living room wall. I found him to be punctual, honest, clean, friendly, customer-service oriented, very reasonably priced and he did a fantastic job on the work I needed completed. Before he left, I created a "to-do" list for additional work to be done at my daughter's home. I was so impressed overall, that I shared his information with our realtor in PX because she frequently has a need for a handyman for her clients. I cannot say enough about how overall pleased I was with my experience, and frankly, it was very, very refreshing as my overall experience with contractors of any kind has not been that great. Tony is top-notch!"

Pool Table Assembly questions, answered by experts

A pool builder can advise you on the best design for your property and vision, and can walk you through the process from design to a swim-ready pool. Knowing which questions to ask a pool builder can help ensure you choose the right person for the job.

Pool leaks most commonly occur at joints or where different materials meet. The most frequent leak spots include:

  • The Pool Skimmer: Where the plastic skimmer meets the pool's liner or shell.

  • The Pool Liner: Tears can develop in vinyl liners, especially those between 5 and 20 years old. Leaks also occur around the liner's edge.

  • Fittings and Accessories: Areas around return lines, the main drain, and pool lights are common culprits.

  • Pool Equipment: The pump, filter, and filter housing can also leak.

While leaks in underground pipes are less common, they can be costly to fix. It's usually best to check the more common spots before investigating the plumbing system.

Pools and pool equipment tend to go on sale in the fall to make room for the next year’s inventory. That means if you’re looking for the lowest cost to install a pool in your outdoor space, you should start looking in the fall rather than the summer. You’ll save money and be ready to dive in during the warm months next year.

Some pool professionals recommend adding an extra layer of comfort and protection between your pool and the vinyl liner. Made from a range of plastic blends, these liners can absorb moisture, allow the pool liner to breathe, and act as an extra barrier for pests, burrowing animals, and mildew. They also provide an extra layer of comfort for swimmers.

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.
