Yes. It's not just AC filters that get dirty. Ducts can accumulate dust and dirt quickly. Insects and animals can also get into duct systems, creating many problems. Clean return air vents by using a microfiber cloth soaked in warm, soapy water (or a mild cleaning solution, like vinegar and water). While you can put air fresheners at the opening to ductwork, most experts don’t recommend it. You will only disguise the odors rather than treat the underlying cause. Plus, blasting the concentrated chemical fragrance into your home’s air when the HVAC system is on may be overpowering and cause respiratory issues.

Water accumulation can occur due to either leaks or condensation on or near cooling coils. It's crucial to inspect for leaks, perform necessary repairs, and ensure regular maintenance checks for your coils and drain pans. Be sure to empty the drain pans completely, as any standing water in the pan indicates that it is not functioning as intended.

There are several signs that your ducts might be clogged, such as encountering more dust in your home, dirty air vent covers, airflow and temperature changes from room to room, noticeable mold growth, and higher energy bills. If you notice these signs, shine a flashlight down your ducts and inspect for clogs or blockages.
