"Mark took accurate, on site measurements of our windows. Once the shutters were completed, he installed them. They look and work great! Project was completed on time! : )
We would definitely use him again.

"After a frustrating time of trying to save money by going the Lowe's route, I was fortunate to meet the owner of Express Shutters and Blinds.  He was able to come to my home within 24 hours, measure all windows, and quote a full installed price for 23 - 2" wood blinds for my Midtown home.  The blinds arrived on time and were installed within 7 or 8 days.  The quality of the product is terrific.  The installation was easy and the overall cost was less than that of buying through a big box retailer.  I have recommended Express Shutters and Blinds to several friends - all of whom have bee thrilled with the product and service."

"I emailed Chris via Angie's List, and he both called me and came to give me an estimate that very same day. He even accommodated my schedule since I work full time and couldn't be home to meet him until the evening. They began the work three days later, on Thursday, with an estimated completion date of Monday. Despite telling Chris that they didn't have to come on Monday if the roads were too dangerous, they opted for a later start time and came around 10 am. The weather delay will likely push the completion date to Tuesday, which is completely understandable. These guys are fantastic. I was more than comfortable giving my house key to so that they could come and go as needed while I was away at work. More importantly, not only are they really nice guys that I was actually happy to have around, their work is absolutely PERFECT. These guys aren't going to slap the paint on the walls and hope for the straightest line possible. Rather, Chris is a perfectionist, and quality is obviously very important to both him and Arturo. They welcomed my feedback and asked if I saw anything I'd like them to touch up or change. (I didn't.) They also took down my existing window treatments and repaired the holes, at my request, and changed the registers in my super tall ceilings, which is obviously above and beyond the call of duty. When I am ready to paint my kitchen and bathrooms, I will definitely hire them again."

"I bought a big deal and waited for a few days for a response to the days I selected to have the job done. I selected days a week out and waited a couple days to be told what worked. After 3 business days I still hadn't heard anything and called the company. They promptly got back to me and we figured a day out to make it happen. There seemed to be some confusion between Angies List communicating to them. I would advise future prospects to call the company after purchasing a big deal to confirm everything and avoid confusion. Beyond that the service and quality met/exceeded my expectations. Will use them again in the future.

"Very well. They were backlogged, so it took a few weeks to get started, but they did a great job. I would have appreciated better communication as I had to call them to find out the status of next steps along the way. However, they were always helpful and professional."

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.
